Here's what the humans have to say about me:
These are before and after pictures of Jake. You can click them to make larger.
Jake is fostering in Clarksburg, Maryland.
This sad old gentleman was dumped at a gassing shelter in Georgia because his guardian "had him tied to a tree and didn't want to bother with him anymore." UGH!! He is somewhere between 10 - 12 years old and as is obvious from the horrible scar going down his back and his leg, he has not had a good life. He was a matted mess when he came to us. Imagine our vet's surprise when she shaved him down and discovered that scar! It is definitely not a surgical scar, and looks like someone poured hot grease or acid down his back. How anyone can do that to any living being goes way beyond my scope of imagination.
We usually only take dogs from our local shelters, however he was out of time at the shelter with no help in sight, and we could not let him die. So we rescued him at the 11th hour. Gassing is a very cruel and inhumane death.
Jake has the true Cocker temperament. He is very sweet, loving and loyal, loves everyone he comes in contact with. He bonds easily and is extremely loyal to those he loves. You can easily take a bone out of his mouth. It just amazes me how forgiving animals are. Even after all he has obviously been through in his life, he still adores people.
His foster Mom has reported that he is perfectly housetrained. She said "I can't believe he would have been mistreated to be such a nice and trusting dog" and "He really has a very, very good temperment." She has even taught him how to sit on cue. He is a fast learner and all he wants to do is please.
Jake is a bit overweight, so we had him tested for a thyroid imbalance and also asked the vet to do a glucose test. The good news is that he does not have diabetes, however he does have a thyroid imbalance. It is very easily controlled with two pills per day and the medication is very inexpensive. His foster Mom wraps his medicine in a piece of cheese and he loves it! He will need to continue with his medication for the rest of his life. Jake also had one of the worst "cherry eyes" I have ever seen. But our vet removed it and now it is as good as new.
If you can open up your heart and home to a sad old boy who has probably never known love and affection, please contact us.
