My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are a regular visitor to the MWCR website, you might think that Ralphie looks a little bit familiar, and you would be right. We thought he had found his forever home with a family that wanted a doggie companion for the young dog they already had. The resident dog was too wild and rambunctious and they thought that if he had a pal to play with, he would calm down. Unfortunately, the presence of another dog only made him more exuberant and the family decided that though Ralphie was not the rambunctious one, he needed to return to MWCR.

Fortunately for Ralphie, he is a happy, easy going dog that goes with the flow. He immediately fit right in at his foster home and is happily playing with the resident dogs and fetching his favorite toy, the Frisbee. He loves to chase balls and other toys and will cheerfully fetch just about anything that his foster family will throw for him. When he was with us before, we learned that he would also enjoy “fetching” cats. This involved chasing the kitties, and though he meant no harm, the cats found him to be a big furry annoyance. For this reason, it would probably be best for Ralphie to live in a cat-free home or with a dog-savvy cat that would stand his ground.

Raphie is a big boy at 85 pounds and we believe him to be a Collie/Golden Retriever mix. He has a silky blond coat and a happy quizzical expression that just makes you want to smile. Despite his large size, he is a very easy going boy who loves children and is gentle with even the littlest ones. He is not a particularly chatty dog, but his voice is deep and authoritative, and he makes a great watch dog, barking to alert his foster family to any unfamiliar sound outside.

Because Ralphie is a very social boy, he loves to be out and about with his foster family. He walks beautifully on his leash, and when he is off leash he has great recall. He also likes to go for rides in the car and will usually sit quietly in the back seat, though he would prefer to sit in the driver’s lap and give kisses.

Ralphie is a well behaved, fully housetrained boy whose only “issue” is an occasional tendency to chew inappropriately when he is bored. He is usually content to chew his Nylabone, but if left alone for prolonged periods, he will branch out and try new things. For this reason, he can be crated or gated when necessary.

Ralphie is a happy, playful, loving boy who is filled with the joy of life. His favorite place to be is wherever you are and his favorite thing to do is whatever you are doing. He loves to bring his favorite toys to his people and to give them kisses. Now that spring is here, he shows his happiness by rolling blissfully on his back in the fresh, green grass (in the winter he would make Collie snow angels).

Ralphie’s forever home could include other dogs or children of any age, but he would also be happy in an adult home as long as he was able to spend plenty of time with his people. He probably does not need a fenced yard, though that is always a plus. Most importantly, he needs a loving family who will return the unconditional love that he is more than ready to give.
