My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 11/2006:
Approx age: 6 1/2 mths
Sex: female
Good with: dogs, cats, kids
Adoption Fee: $200

Flag (aka Flaggerdoodle) is a special little girl, just ask anyone that meets her. She had a rough start as many unwanted dogs do. She did have her mom and siblings to help her get through it all. She's a tough little girl and ready for a home that is as special as she is.

This little angel probably won't get very large. We think she's a mix between a Rottweiler and a Lab, but without seeing her daddy, we'll never know for sure. Because of the rough start she had, we think her growth may have been stunted. At about 6-6 1/2 months old she weighs no more than 35lbs. She's definitely grown up from the 5 week old pup that we first got, but she won't be as big as the average female Rott.

If you are looking for a dog that you can bring with you anywhere dogs are allowed, this is your girl. She acts a little shy with strangers in places she hasn't been before, but don't let that fool you. She's got a lot of confidence and quickly settles in. She adores all other dogs and people and is wonderful with the cat she lives with. She's a little bundle of energy, but a good sort of energy. Flag would do great in obedience training, flyball and agility. She also loves the water so beware of water dishes on the floor. Unfortunately she's not as fond of the water being sprayed on her for bath time.

Flag is already spayed and current on all of her shots. She's microchipped and kept on monthly heartworm and flea prevention as well. She currently knows sit, down and shake. She also gives kisses most of the time on command and will leave a treat when told until given the "okay". This is one smart girl and whoever adopts will be one lucky owner!!

This little angel probably won’t get very large. We think she’s a mix between a Rottweiler and a Lab, but without seeing her daddy, we’ll never know for sure. Because of the rough start she had, we think her growth may have been stunted. At about 6-6 ½ months old she weighs no more than 35lbs. She’s definitely grown up from the 5 week old pup that we first got, but she won’t be as big as the average female Rott.

UPDATE 9/20/06:
Flag didn't do so well when we first got her, but through the love of her fosters and rescuers, she pulled through.

Due to being ill as as a tiny pup, she is on the smaller side. At 5 1/2 months she weighs about 33lbs. She won't be a big dog, but she definitely makes up for that. She has turned into a beautiful young Rottie mix girl with a lot of spirit and tenacity. Flag will always have a special place in our hearts, but she deserves a home of her own where all of the attention can be focused on her. She is great with all dogs and cats. She loves to romp with the big dogs, chew on toys, and play with balls and squeaky toys. She already knows sit, down and shake. She's currently working on perfecting her treat catching skills and her "leave it".

ORIGINAL POST: Flag is a special little girl. Her name was actually a silly nickname we teased her with because her tail had only been partially docked for some reason. (Siblings had their tails fully docked.) We'd call her Flag Tail and it just kind of stuck, so we kept it. And oddly, it fits her well. :)

Her siblings look pure Rott and are big kiddos, but she has white on her toes and more on her chest so we can't say for sure what her father was. She was rescued from a shelter with her six siblings and mother. Her mom, Sheeba, is available for adoption through LaP Dog Rescue.

Unfortunately, three of Flag's siblings passed away from complications of an illness when they were very young. Flag was going to be the fourth, but she was (and still is) too much of a fighter and so we kept fighting for her. She was finally diagnosed with a severe inflammation of the intestines...most likely from a previous severe infestation of worms and other bacteria. She couldn't hold anything down and was wasting away. After a few days on meds, fluids under the skin, and massive amounts of readily given TLC by her loving foster family, she slowly started to bounce back.

Flag's growth has definitely been affected by her prior illness. She has yet to catch up to her siblings, who have all been adopted. She was literally half their size, but has had the same tenacity and spirit, if not more. She is still on the thinner side, but eats and plays like a horse.

Her immune system was affected by the lack of nutrition while she was sick, so she is still playing catch up. She has some mild food allergies that gave her the "itchies" and caused some of her hair to fall out. We have her on a special diet to get her up to full strength and then we will try her on different dog foods to see what works best with her system. She will most likely have to stay away from foods with corn, wheat or soy in them.

Her current diet is working great and she has regrown almost all of the lost hair. We also think she'll outgrow the allergies.

Of course with all that this little beauty has gone through and all of the life we see in her, she will always have a special place in our hearts. We want to find that special home that will love her as much as her rescuers love her. She is really a great little pup and anyone that meets her sees it very quickly. There is so much spark, intelligence and love in her eyes. She loves to give kisses and even play with the big dogs in the house. She has no clue that she's still only a fraction (and truly a fraction) of their size. It doesn't stop her...she plays tug and runs around with them.

We're giving Flag a little extra time to fully strengthen up and have her immune system working well before we spay her. She has already been dewormed and has had her three sets of shots. We will most likely prefer to spay her right before placement -- we feel that is the best option health-wise for her.

If you think you are the special family with the special home that Flag is looking for, let us and Flag know.

She will surely brighten anyone's life that comes into hers!
