My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Is your house a little on the quiet side? Is your monochrome day in need of some color? Do you feel like you could use a little extra laughter in your life? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then this little guy might be for you. Dougal is a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix who is nearly 1 year old, and weighs about 10 pounds. What he lacks in size he makes up for in personality. When he looks at you from underneath those floppy, speckled ears with his intelligent, light-brown eyes, you can see his mind figuring out how he is going to entertain you next. He might grab one of his toys and challenge you to get it from him. But watch out, his mischievous side might appear, and he may grab one of your socks instead. He doesn't want to chew it. He just wants to find out if you can catch him. When he has had a long day playing with the other pets (a dog and two cats) and school-age children in his foster home, get ready, because he will be ready for a nice, warm cuddle. At night, he sleeps quietly in his crate and is well-behaved until the morning. Dougal is learning basic commands, such as “sit”, “come” and “stay”. He is working on house training and doing well when on a consistent schedule. When he's very excited to see you, he can be energetic and mouthy (puppy nipping), but he is getting better at controlling his excitement.

Dougal has been diagnosed with unilateral deafness, which means that he is completely deaf in his right ear and has normal hearing in his left ear. Despite his hearing loss, he has adapted well to his foster home. He would do best with an experienced dog owner and/or a family that is committed to providing the exercise and on-going basic training he needs. If you're willing to give Dougal a chance, he will love you with all of his big, giant Heart of Gold. Here are more pictures of Dougal.
