Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I found a new home! Plenty of my friends are looking for one too. Check out other pets at this shelter, or start a new search.

Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This very pretty and very affectionate girl is only 20 months old. Unfortunately her short life hasn't been beautiful or loving. Misty was adopted privately from her first family, when they could no longer keep her. Her new owner kept her tied outside for most of the month that he "owned" Misty . He then called MARS giving us only a few days to pick her up or he was going to take her to the shelter. While we were scrambling to find a space, Misty was dumped at the shelter, and her owner authorized the shelter to euthanize her. We will never know why this person wanted to own a dog, or how he could simply authorize her destruction for no apparent reason.
Many times the public sees Animal Control as the bad guys, some might be, but not these folks. They were devastated, Misty was one of the sweetest Akitas they had ever met. But, she had to be moved immediately, they were full and they had no other options. Misty was so sweet that one Officer offered to make arrangements at a local vet to have her spayed and she would personally take her to the clinic at the end of her shift. Three hundred miles away, we had a family that just adopted one of our orphans, when we sent out an SOS about Misty, they agreed to foster her.
Misty has managed to win many fans in her short time with MARS-- the folks at the shelter, the staff at the Vet Clinic, her transport team, the kennel where she stayed while her foster home got things ready for her--all were charmed by this very friendly and affectionate (she loves to give little Kita Kisses) girl. Misty is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. This sweetie will do best in an experienced home, where she can settle in and learn to trust that she will not be abandoned again.
While we are certain she will continue to charm people, Misty needs one more fan, a lifetime owner. For more information on Misty please contact Deanna O'Brien at marsakita@sbcglobal.net or 773-594-9302
