Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Martin is the life of the party (we call him Party Marty or Martini)! He is a happy, well adjusted, social puppy who plays all day. He loves activity and thrives in an active environment that keeps his mind and body busy. He is a handsome, sweet boy who will make a happy addition to a new family.
AGE: 8 months (born 5/31/2010)
SIZE: 12 lbs. and 12 inches tall at 19 weeks. He is expected to be about 15" tall and 18 lbs. when fully grown.
TEMPERAMENT: Martin is a happy, fun, fun puppy. He is also very busy and has energy to spare. He is eager and willing to please, though has a very short attention span, even for a puppy. He is food motivated with a treat.
FENCE: A secure physical fence is required. Martin has a high chase instinct and will run off if not secured in a fenced area when playing.
DOGS: Martin gets along well with all dogs, including the dominant female dog in his foster home. He would do best in a home with another playful canine companion.
CATS: He would love to chase a cat, but is learning to be respectful of the feline in his foster home.
KIDS: Martin loves all the kids he has met and is very tolerant of the children in his foster home.
CRATE-TRAINED: Yes. Martin is fed in his kennel as he is often too distracted to eat his food.
HOUSETRAINED: Yes. Martin gets very distracted outside and forgets why he is out there. We minimize the distractions (let him out alone) and he tends to business.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Martin sits and comes when called. He would benefit from puppy classes in his new home.
LEASH MANNERS: Martin does fairly well on leash. He pulls if allowed, and likes to chase things such as leaves, frogs, and dandelion fluff. His foster family is working on this with him.
CAR RIDES: Martin has gotten car sick, but is improving with more car rides in his foster home.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: High. Martin is a busy, high energy guy. He will do well in an active home that can give him a job or two. He runs all day and his foster family has never seen him tired!
BARKING: High. Martin barks to go outside or to engage other dogs or children in play.
HEALTH ISSUES: No known health issues.
EXPERIENCED HOME: Martin needs a home that is accustomed to a high energy dog. He is so happy and sweet, just constantly moving. He likely wouldn't be a good choice for a novice dog owner.
Martin would love to run in a fenced yard, with other dogs or children He is a sweet, smart, eager to please puppy who is happiest when kept busy. Special thanks to Jennifer Sime Photography for the beautiful picture of Martin.
For more information on our adoption process (which includes an application, references and a home visit prior to meeting dogs) or to see other Shelties available for adoption, please visit our website at www.mnsheltierescue.org, or contact us for the adoption application. Martin's adoption fee is $300.00, and he is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).
