This doll baby, another one of our honorary German Shepherds, is probably a rat terrier (or miniature pincher), best guess. He has the cutest ears so we think he may be related to bats or maybe rabbits :-)
Captain Crunch was dumped at the shelter by someone who did not treat him nicely and he was very scared. This is understandable as he is only 8-9 months old (his adult teeth were not quite in yet when he first came to us at 5-6 months) and a tiny boy (around 12 lbs). He is very cute and affectionate. He loves to chase his big (85 lbs) German Shepherd brother and protector in his yard and is playful and energetic. When he gets very excited, he can get a little mouthy (which is normal in puppies), but he is very easily distracted. Captain Crunch loves to climb into his people's laps and snuggle and also occasionally enjoys being carried around and watching the world from above. He is known to take a nap on his human friend's shoulder while watching TV. He can initially be a little scared of new people and needs a little time to warm up. If he is allowed to approach new people at his own pace, soon they will be his best friends. Therefore he would do best in a calm adult home, even though he lived in a home with children for two months and loved them. Captain Crunch is doing great with housebreaking and potties outside like a big boy. His family will be expected to continue with the basic training. If you are looking for a loving, affectionate and smart companion who can go anywhere in a carrier, Captain Crunch is your guy.
Update: Our boy was adopted and then dumped by his family after two months. The 8yo daughter of the family constantly carried him around like a stuffed toy (which he is not). Since parents apparently don't have the common sense to teach their young children how to treat animals, and small dogs in particular, and how to play with them, we will not place our small dogs into homes with young children (who are not strong enough or skilled enough to lift them properly). While small dogs occasionally enjoy being carried around, they are not toys to be dragged around by children. Our little guy will only be placed with people who demonstrate enough common sense when handling their pets.
It is our policy not to place our dogs into homes with young children, no exceptions. The adoption begins with the adoption application: we do not have the manpower to respond to detailed inquiries before we receive the application. Our adoption procedures are described on the home page, please read them carefully. A donation of $275 is required at the time of adoption. If you can offer sweet Captain Crunch a loving forever home, please submit an on-line application by
