Here's what the humans have to say about me:
I found Simon on an urgent shelter list from Virginia. I figured I could squeeze him in, after all, he was just a puppy, all alone, on death row and since he was marked as extremely urgent, I knew his days were numbered. When I offerred to take him in, they asked if I would be interested in an adult dog too who was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. How do you say no to that? So Simon and Brandon rode the Freedom Train to New Hampshire.
Simon is a pup who definitely has a zest for life. He throws himself 100% into everything. I fell in love with him on the car ride home when he rode quietly in my lap soaking up hugs and pats most of the way. The rest of the time, he tormented Brandon, our other rescue, with kisses and bites and tugs on his cheeks and legs. Brandon took it all without incident, even though I thought for sure Simon would cause a fight by tugging on his cheeks so forcefully. I was amazed by how patient he was with our wild boy and how well these two got on from the start. There were many dogs at that shelter that we couldn't take. I felt terrible about that. Maybe these two know that they were the lucky ones and have developed a long lasting bond from it.
Well, these two are definitely best buddies. I usually find them wrestling together every chance they get. Some of the many nicknames I have for them are: Thunder (Simon) and Lightning (Brandon), Skipper (Brandon) and his sidekick Gilligan (Simon), Batman (Brandon) and Robin (Simon) are the most common ones...
Simon is a beautiful rich black and reddish brown, rottie-like colors, but he was listed by the shelter as a shep mix. Hard to say on the breed. Can I just pick "puppy too cute for my own good" breed? Brandon is a gorgeous reddish brindle. The shelter listed him as a retriever mix, but I think he is a husky (his antics remind me of a husky) / greyhound (he is very light on his feet and gentle like a greyhound and that would also explain the brindle coloring) mix. Whatever his breed, the shelter did not lie when they said this boy is Wonderful. He is so sweet, gentle, calm AND low maintenance. He gets along with every dog he meets and of course his favorite buddy is Simon, his sidekick. His favorite past time is wrestling with Simon and playing tug of war with him and their toys. Brandon is also doing very well with crate training. We have an extra large crate for him but he likes to show us how he can squish himself into the smaller ones by choice.
Simon is defintely is a pup who wants to play and plays rough. He loves all the dogs, but his favorite buddy, Brandon is always tolerant of his roughness and rarely gets mad at him like some of the other dogs do when he gets too rough. Simon loves to make these growly noises when playing that make him sound ferocious, I guess to make up for the fact that he is still small enough (but not for long) to slide right underneath his gentle giant friend Brandon. Simon also likes to use the other dogs as tables. I wish I have been able to get a photo of that because that is one pose I always want to remember about him. Simon loves his toys too and his favorite is a bone that he looks ridiculous running around the house with. He has been doing really well with crate training and needs his new family to continue his potty training. He also wanted me to say he has a beautiful SIT (not taught by me) when he knows there is something yummy for him. I would love to see this boy go to school, because he seems very smart to me but definitely needs some place to channel some of his over eagerness. This boy has also endeared himslef to me by always following me around outside. I think he will make a very devoted companion as he makes it so obvious how special his person is to him.
Both dogs get along great with other dogs, and would probably do fine being separated or living in a one dog household, but I would really love to find a home for them together. I know they are different and perhaps it would be easier to find two different homes, an active one for Simon and a someone looking for a gentle dog for Brandon. But when I see these two playing together, I think "Shouldn't their happy endings truly reflect their dreams come true?" and I know the answer.
