My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! My name is Sir Orange, and I'm a 2-year-old brown and white male looking for my forever home.  Life has thrown me a few curveballs recently. My beloved owner passed away, and I ended up at the shelter.  It's been a bit overwhelming, so I might seem a little reserved at first. But don't let that fool you! Once you offer me some gentle head scratches, my true personality shines through.  I used to live with other cats, so I'm likely to be friendly with feline companions too! I just need a little time to adjust to my new surroundings and get to know you.  If you're looking for a loving companion who appreciates a calm and gentle approach, I'm your guy. I can't wait to find a cozy spot in your heart and home!  While I might not be a fan of being picked up, I absolutely adore head scratches. In fact, I get so excited for them, I'll even jump up onto my back legs just to get those pets – it's almost like a little trick I do! I am available for adoption but is still being cared for in a foster home.  For more information about me or to schedule a meeting, please email cats@frastx.org.

More about this rescue

Friends of Rescue Animals (FRAs) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. FRAs was founded in 2004 by 4 volunteers who wanted to support the Rowlett Animal Shelter. Our organization has grown to over 300 volunteers, and with this growth, we now support two municipal shelters -- Rowlett, TX and Garland, TX – and operate our own cat rescue program.

Our mission is to provide resources, programs and education to promote adoption and care of homeless pets in our community. FRAs’ vision is a world where every companion animal has a safe and loving forever home. We are a 100% all volunteer run organization, and our ability to help homeless animals depends on donations from the community and grant funding.

Our organizational programs include operating the volunteer program for both shelters, providing funding for heartworm treatments and emergency medical care, accepting cats from the shelter and citizens into our foster-based cat rescue, supporting TNR/SNR efforts for community cats and most recently funding dog transport initiatives. Our volunteers spend thousands of hours socializing and marketing the animals for adoption, which increases the number of animals with a positive outcome. FRAs has helped countless pets avoid euthanasia, find their forever homes and live longer, healthier lives.
