My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Winston von Welzow is one handsome 10-11 month boy, he is curly-fluffy boy with a heart as sweet as his unique look. He has a medium build, with a tad more growing to do. He’s got that adorable “love bug” personality—always eager to share some love with you. Whether you’re heading out for a stroll or settling in for cuddles, Winston is always game. He walks great on leash, staying by your side in a perfect heel and greeting people and other dogs with calm, friendly confidence. He knows commands like “sit” and takes treats politely from an open palm. In playgroups, Winston shines. He enters confidently, socializes well, and loves exploring the yard. He’s a fantastic greeter and happily engages in play—especially when a active friend invites him to romp around. He has also had a good cat test. Winston is ready to share your life with you step by step. making him a joy to be around whether you’re going for walks, playing in the yard, or simply relaxing at home! If you like a dramatic rescue story Winston has one!

Rescued from the SEACCA animal shelter.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
