My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chip von Crivitz is a handsome, larger 2 year-old, long-haired, sable German Shepherd. We rarely see this combination which is very sought after. He is magnificent, when he comes out for walk, eyes all turn to Chip! Not only is he stunning but with a gentle heart and a sweet, easygoing personality, he is a major catch! A soft soul who thrives on gentle affection and kind guidance, Chip is a great listener, eager to please and loves learning—he already knows “sit” and takes treats gently. This big boy is housebroken, has mastered his leash skills and walks beautifully by your side, calmly enjoying his walk. He's always checking in with his person and enjoys being close to you without needing constant attention. He’s comfortable around other dogs and walks nicely alongside them. While he’s not one to seek out play, he’s polite and peaceful in a group setting. If you’re looking for a loyal, wonderful friend who wants nothing more than to share his life with you, Chip is your guy. (No cats please.)

Rescued from the Lancaster animal shelter.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
