MAX IS NOW ADOPTED SO HE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLEADOPTION REQUIREMENT FOR MAX: Max is strongly dependable on other canines -- preferable those closer to his size, so anyone adopting him must have another dog which gets along well with Max and will help him to rebuild his self confidence. He will NOT be adopted to a family without other dogs. It also would be preferable that his adoptive family have someone who works from home or is retired and able to spend time with him. He does not need to spend long periods of time crated.
June/4/18 Another update on sweet Max. He is a little angel! So eager to please yet still so frightened of “dogless” humans. He is a walking machine and has now mastered stopping prior to crossing the street. Max is very independent and is not currently a “cuddler.” He enjoys having his head scratched and loves to be praised. He does not like to picked up. Lifting Max causes him to thrash about and heavily pant. The one exception is getting in the car! He loves to ride especially to a local park for long walks. Over the weekend, Max finished all of his medication from his neuter and dental --Found out Max does not like peanut butter!) No adverse reactions.
May /29/18 Max had a very good Holiday! He is becoming more social and will approach people with dogs for a head rub. He still is wary of humans without pets. The most remarkable aspect of Max is his “indoor manners.” He did not come with a crate and I do not own one. Since Day 1, Max has had full run of the house. He has neither had an accident nor caused any damage. He seems at peace on his pillow and prefers it placed in corners. He knows his mealtimes and will stand next to his dish as a gentle reminder. He is eating Healthy Balance with a small bit of chicken and brown rice. We have a second floor but Max shows no interest in using the stairs. He still does not play with toys or Nylabones but is quick to accept a treat. Max will run to me with that little tail wagging and really enjoys hearing what a “good boy” he is! Max is an incredible walker! He loves being outside and exploring. We are working on stopping prior to crossing a street and he is making great progress. He is pleasure to foster! May /23/18 Sweet little Max continues to do well. We enjoy lengthy walks several times each day and he is always thrilled to meet new doggie friends. Still very submissive and shy with adults. Has not been around any children. He has no interest in squirrels, geese, birds or rabbits. Enjoys “working” in the flower garden with me. Although he has no problem walking in the rain, Max does not like to be present when I am watering. Has a great appetite and will now accept treats. He has started approaching me with that little tail wagging. Very exciting! He has an appointment with a groomer on June 7 and I will stay with him the entire time. SRC#1958 MAX's Story MAX with this unique identification number: (SRC#1958) came into SRC care during May when his owner was taken away by Homeland Security in the middle of the night due to his illegal status. This person was not allowed to make any arrangements and his home was left open and Max was left unattended and traumatized in the back yard. A concerned neighbor fed and watered him, very concerned about the horrible heat and finally when relatives came, she made arrangements with them to sign him over to SRC. We were standing by to help and vetted Max completely since there were no available vet records. His previous owner will not be allowed back in the country and was sent back to his original country of origin. Our mission was to help little Max through his trauma and help prepare him for adoption. He was placed with a very compassionate foster family who have gone thru our approval process. We at SRC just want Max to have that loving home he deserves. Now ready for adoption this dog is heart-worm tested (negative), de-wormed, vaccinations brought up to date, neutered, micro-chipped, examined fully by a vet and any necessary medical issues found by this vet will have been addressed. It is anticipated that this dog will be released for adoption by the same date as the completion of the Evaluation. The date of release of this dog is at the discretion of the SRC Core Team.
MAX (SRC#1958) IS BEING FOSTERED IN CARY, NC AND YOU SHOULD BE WILLING TO DRIVE TO THAT LOCATION IN ORDER TO PICK THE DOG UP THERE WHEN HE IS ADOPTED. Tax-deductible donation requested at time of adoption for this dog is $450 PLEASE READ PRIOR TO APPLYING When ready for adoption, this canine will have been evaluated for at least two weeks by loving SRC foster parents who will be able to give the adoptive parents their opinion about the demeanor of the family companion prior to the adoptive parents finalizing their adoption of this canine. All our SRC volunteers strive to do this for the well-being of their rescued canine and to assure a successful adoption. It is our worthy mission to assure that each canine rescued by SRC is placed in a loving, stable and permanent home whose family members will treat it as a beloved member of their immediate family. We are prepared to assure that all of our rescued dogs are in great homes or we will reclaim them if necessary. SRC’s rescued dogs are placed in foster homes throughout NC, SC, TN, and VA until they are adopted. These same states are SRC's approved adoption areas so please do not apply unless you live in one of these states. You must be willing to drive to the dog's foster home in order to adopt the canine. The location of each dog is listed at the bottom of its bio. BEFORE meeting an SRC dog, you must be approved to adopt by our Placement Team. Our downloadable Adoption Application is on our web site at http://www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org/_files/SRC_APP_082013.doc and may be submitted via email or fax (1-910-401-1317). You may request an Adoption Application to email address: adoptions@schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org Upon receipt of your application, a vet reference check will be done and if the vet check is satisfactory then a home visit will be done. The entire process may take up to seven days, depending on your location and the number of applications being processed at that time. Please plan on welcoming your new dog into your home within two weeks after approval. We cannot hold dogs because this limits our intake of others in need; SRC adopts them out on a first-come, first-serve basis based on a completed approved adoption process. If you are unable to accept your adopted dog within this time frame then SRC will go to the next approval and place with someone able to give the rescue a home within the proper time frame. SRC does not ordinarily adopt its dogs to families with children under ten years of age. Exceptions are sometimes made on a case by case basis but only when the dog has been raised with children and the children are very respectful of animals. This is for the protection of the dogs and for the protection of the children. Procedures will be explained to you at the time of approval regarding donation and contract. Your donation is made in honor of the adoption of your new family companion and is never a purchase of an animal. This tax deductible donation goes forward to help incoming rescued dogs. Our average total expense per dog includes but is not limited to the list of expenses shown below. Here is a break-down of the average expenses spent on SRC dogs to assure they remain healthy and happy as they are prepared for adoption: Office Visit $45-60; Fecal $14-36; Rabies $14-36; DHPP $14-36; Bordatella $14-36; Heart-worm, Lyme, Ehrliccia Testing $30-55; Heart-worm SRC wants to thank you for your interest in our rescued dogs. We put our heart and souls into saving their lives. Often the medical expense, time and effort expended to help these dogs, far outweighs the minimal donation requested to adopt these innocent ones. Please understand SRC is limited in the number of dogs in our safe haven and if you are not selected to adopt one of them, it is not a reflection on your ability to provide a good home for a canine, simply our lack of ability to provide for the overwhelming demand from applicants. SRC urges you to pursue rescue -- it is definitely a worthy mission even if you do not adopt from SRC. |
