Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Xena von Ziesar is a 12-14 month old stunning black and brown shepherd with a heart full of love to give. Xena is a gentle and affectionate girl who is ready to find her forever home. Xena walks beautifully on a leash and has a calm, polite demeanor. She is friendly with everyone she meets and enjoys being part of the action, whether it’s going for a stroll or simply hanging out with her people. Xena is very people-oriented — she loves to be near you, snuggle at your feet, or curl up beside you while you work or relax. She is housebroken and thrives on companionship. Xena is also very dog-friendly! She enjoys the company of other polite dogs and loves exploring the yard or play area with her canine friends. She’s happy to greet new dogs and join in play at her own pace, making her a wonderful addition to a home with other social dogs. Treat-motivated and eager to please, Xena bonds quickly with those who show her kindness. She enjoys being close, getting gentle pets, and sharing quiet moments.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
