My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maverick is a darling DSH mostly white with brown tabby spots male born approximately 5/3/2020.

Meet Maverick & Ice Man – A Bond Like No Other

Our story began happily. We were adopted as kittens and lived joyfully in our new home for four wonderful years, always by each other’s side. But one day, out of the blue, our family decided they didn’t want us anymore. They took us to a shelter, and although the car ride was terrifying, we were at least together.

The shelter was a scary place, and we spent a week wondering what we had done wrong to be left behind. Thankfully, because we had microchips, we were able to return to our rescue group, who welcomed us back with open arms and a loving foster home. But the trauma of that week made us scared and uncertain. We hid under the couch for three weeks, too afraid to trust anyone. We didn’t eat much and lost some weight. It wasn’t healthy, but we were determined to heal.

Now, after overcoming these challenges, we’re ready to find a new family who will cherish us forever—together. We’re a bonded pair, and we believe we’re twice the company and twice the love. We’re still figuring out how to communicate with our foster mom, but maybe our new family will be able to understand us better.

Maverick

  • Favorite sound: The crinkle of a bag! When I hear it, I come running, but my foster mom hasn’t figured out which treats I want yet.

  • Personality: I love to sit in laps (though I’m so big, it can be tricky!), and I enjoy playing and running around with Ice Man. Sadly, I don’t have my old toys or scratching posts, so playtime is a bit short. I’m not sure how I’d feel around dogs or kids.

  • Fun Fact: I’m still learning how to communicate my needs, but I’m hopeful my new family will understand my signs!

Ice Man

  • Favorite sound: When I cry, I’m asking for canned food. I get a little at a time, and that’s all I need to be happy!

  • Personality: I love snuggling on the couch and I’m a big fan of treats. I don’t have any of my old blankets, but I’ve found comfort in one on my foster mom’s couch. I’m a bit curious about other kitties, though they’re not too welcoming, so I’m not sure how I’d feel about sharing my space with other cats. I’m also unsure about dogs and kids.

  • Fun Fact: I’m a cuddle bug who just wants to feel safe and loved.

Our Promise
We’ve been through a lot, but we’re strong, resilient, and ready to bring joy into your home. We may be shy at first, but with patience and love, we’ll warm up and show you the bond we share. We are never going back to a shelter, so we’re hoping that you can be the family we call our own, forever.

Maverick is microchipped and currently in a foster home. His adoption fee is $105.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our focus is to place animals in loving, permanent homes where they will be cared for responsibly. Potential adopters or fosters are screened, up to and including home visits. We reserve the right to refuse placement of an animal for any reason. We thank you for understanding.

Adopters must be 21 years or older and willing to invest the time and money required to care for a pet. In addition to providing love and attention, regular medical care is required. Please ask if you would like more information about veterinary fees and costs.

Our animals come from a variety of situations. Some have been dumped at shelters or vets, and many are ill or malnourished when rescued. Although the animal has been in a protected environment, there is the possibility of unrecognized illness appearing after an adoption is finalized, especially because of the stress the animal may experience during the first few days at its new home. We advise adopters of the animal's known history and provide its veterinary records, but frequently we know only what the animal chooses to tell us. We cannot make any guarantee regarding the long-term health of any animal. Adoption fees are generally not refundable unless prior arrangements are made.

If you feel that you are ready to adopt, please e-mail adoptions@nbcrtx.org for prompt attention. A NBCR adoption counselor will contact you to arrange an interview.
