My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Buddy!

Buddy is a tan hound mix with a playful spirit and a curious nose. He’s an intelligent, obedient guy who already knows his basic commands and enjoys having structure in his day. One of his favorite things? Water. If there’s a splash to be had, Buddy is interested.

Buddy does best with someone who understands that not every dog is instantly perfect. He’s a special boy who benefits from a patient, calm owner who’s willing to give him time to settle in and continue learning. With consistency and clear guidance, Buddy shows how eager he is to do well and connect with his person.

He’s not a one-size-fits-all dog, but for the right home—one that values patience, routine, and gentle leadership—Buddy has the potential to be a loyal and rewarding companion.

Additional adoption info

The AWL is here to find the best match possible between adopters and the animals in our care. Keep in mind that a pet’s personality is way more important, and it’s best to try to find a pet that will fit into your lifestyle.

More about this shelter

The Animal Welfare League is a non-profit organization committed to advocating for animal protection and welfare. We are based in Port Charlotte, Florida. Since 1963 our shelter has served the Charlotte County community by providing a temporary home, medical service and caring attention for many dogs, cats and other animals. These animals come to us as strays, pets given up by their owners, unfortunate animals rescued from abuse and neglect, or simply lost pets in need of being re-united with their families.
