🖤🌴🗡️ Meet Zelda, a “Sato dog” from Puerto Rico! A “Sato dog” refers to the small to medium-sized stray dogs on the island. Island dogs are smart, loyal, highly trainable, and thrive on routines and consistency. They have wonderful demeanors, make devoted companions, adjust well to their environments, and are a perfect mix of energetic and affectionate. There is no love like the love of an island dog.
(Five week update- 5/16): Zelda, her 6 siblings, and mother, Athena, were found surviving in a sewer pipe in Patillas, PR. Zelda is a love bug and her personality continues to shine. She is happy, full of puppy energy, self-entertained, loves cuddles, loves meeting new people, and enjoys various toys. She is very smart and learned “sit” in under a week and also learned “paw”. Zelda is extremely food driven and has been enjoying dog puzzles too. Crate training was a breeze and she settles down nicely. She sleeps through the night in her crate, without accidents. She is doing great with potty training, following routines, and is taking to cues. She walks well on a leash and has established a lot during in her time in foster home(s). We are excited to see her confidence continue to thrive, though she’s full of it already. Zelda is fostered with two other island dogs and was previously fostered with 2 Sato dogs and a cat. As she loves everyone, we see no problems interacting with kids- with proper introduction. (Father of the litter is unknown).
