My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Aiko, a truly enchanting tortoiseshell cat with a heart as unique as her beautiful coat. Just three years old, Aiko’s journey has already been one of resilience and hope. She came to our sanctuary after a compassionate supporter reached out for help. Aiko struggled to find peace in a home with nine other cats—a bit overwhelming for such a sensitive and sweet soul! Her quality of life needed a change, and that’s where her new story begins.
From the moment Aiko arrived, it was impossible not to fall in love with her. Her expressive golden-green eyes seem to hold stories untold, and her delicate blend of black, orange, and cream fur makes her look like a living work of art. And it’s not just her looks that make her special—Aiko’s sweet, curious nature shines brighter every day. She enjoys quiet moments of affection and has a calm presence that warms the heart.

Aiko is up to date on all her vaccinations and has been spayed, ready to embark on the next chapter of her life. While we are still evaluating how she interacts with other cats, she craves a tranquil environment where her personality can truly blossom. Her tolerance for dogs or children is yet to be discovered, but we’re confident that Aiko will thrive in a loving home that appreciates her gentle spirit.
Aiko deserves a family that can offer her the comfort and attention she was missing before—a special someone who will cherish her quirks, her grace, and her companionship. Could that someone be you? Open your heart to Aiko, and you might just find the perfect match you didn’t know you were searching for.
The adoption fee is a donation to our rescue, and the amount is at your discretion. Manatee, Hillsborough, Sarasota, and Pinellas counties only. Please apply to adopt her online at https://www.duetteanimalrescueteam.org/online-adoption-application. Thank you for caring.

More about this rescue

We founded the Duette Animal Rescue Team (DART) in 2020 in Manatee County. DART is a volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing former domestic and exotic pets such as prosimians and cats with behavioral challenges. We learned about the plight for exotic pets held in captivity and lack of understanding of the care they need as wild animals. We support causes that advocate for the conservation of these species in the wild in their native countries. By working with a network of zo's, private owners, zoo staff volunteer advocates, foster caregivers, local veterinarians, trainers, and shelters,
DART strives to rescue animals and provide these animals with behavioral rehabilitation and care. We catch cats to assist with the management of stray cat overpopulation in the community. We rehabilitate the cats so that we can put them up for adoption and have a better quality of life. For example, cat litter box training and socialization.
