My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Marvin was brought in by a community member on March 22, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Marvin, a cat with both looks and opinions. He likes company but prefers to get to know people on his own terms-no unsolicited meet-and-greets, please. The quickest way to earn his approval? Food. Marvin has a deep appreciation for snacks and considers them an acceptable bribe. He prefers a calm, quiet home without the hustle and bustle of young children, where he can call the shots and relax in peace. When he arrived, our medical team discovered he had a jaw fracture that required extensive dental work. Despite his past, he remains as dignified as ever, carrying himself like a cat who knows he deserves only the finest accommodations. He also has a strong interest in outdoor exploration-whether he's invited or not. He is FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus positive), which means his immune system is compromised. While FIV+ cats can live long, happy lives, they shouldn't roam freely outside to help keep other cats safe from transmission. Unfortunately, Marvin hasn't quite gotten that memo-he's been known to tear through screen windows in pursuit of adventure! That's why he's looking for a home with a secure outdoor catio, where he can bask in the sun without launching an escape mission. If you have a well-secured outdoor space and are looking for a gorgeous, determined feline companion, Marvin is your guy! Just be sure to bring a hard-sided, top-loading carrier-trust us, you'll need it. Come meet Marvin today and give this adventurous spirit the safe, loving home he deserves!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
