Sweet and gentle Nova is a one-of-a-kind gal!
Nova is about 6 years old and is a sophisticated lady looking for her fur-ever home. She is the perfect mix of independent and affectionate and is a well-mannered girl who is eager to please. She is looking for a family to take her for daily strolls and enjoy some sunbathing with. Nova is a petite girl and only weighs about 44lbs.
Nova came to us from a shelter in Central California after finding herself on the euthanasia list due to a lack of space at the shelter. She was originally adopted from the shelter as a puppy in 2019 but was recently surrendered due to the family no longer having the financial means to care for her. She was anxious and confused at the shelter but has slowly been showing her true sweet self now that she is in a foster home.
Nova is such a sweetheart and has won our hearts with her gentle demeanor. She can be a little shy at first but warms up with some yummy treats. Once she bonds with you, she wants to be with you wherever you are and is more than happy to lay on her bed while you get work done. She is a polite girl and has great house manners. She does have a goofy side and we have learned she likes stuffed toys (particularly ones that she is allowed to shred). She seems like she has had some basic training and knows how to sit on command. She appears like she hasn't spent too much time on a leash and is still gaining confidence out and about.
Nova has done well meeting other dogs and seems to be best with submissive male dogs. She also has been more than happy to be an only dog. Nova is a little too interested in chasing cats and needs a kitty-free home. Nova seems like she could be a great addition to a home with kids 12 years or older. She would make a great companion for a retired person or couple who wants a medium-sized companion.
Nova appears to be housetrained and has been doing great being crated at night and when home alone for a few hours at a time. She is a very quiet dog and has been doing well living in an apartment.
Nova is such a special girl and she deserves a fresh start with a family just as great as her. If you think that might be you, submit an adoption application today!
Nova's adoption fee is $250.

The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes.
Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
