My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Schnapps! Schnapps came to our shelter as a stray and was unfortunately never reclaimed by his owner. We do know that his real name is Schnapps as that was the name on his microchip. He is around 6 years old. This poor guy came to us with a ton of hair-loss, sad demeanor and just looked "swollen". We quickly discovered that he was cryptorchid, meaning one of his testicles never descended appropriately. This put him at a pre-disposition for cancer. We decided to move forward with his neuter procedure after he wasn't reclaimed, as there wasn't a clear reason for his hair-loss and he seemed to otherwise be in good shape. The vets discovered a hugely enlarged testicle (larger than a tennis ball) in his abdomen and we sent it out for biopsy, hopeful but concerned for a worst case scenario for this sweet boy. We recently received the biopsy results and we are delighted to know that while it was a cancerous tumor, it was a Sertoli tumor, which actually explained all of his other symptoms including alopecia, bloating, irregular atrophied testicle (the other one, non cancerous one). The great news is that the removal normally results in complete remission of the cancer, and that it only metastasizes in between 2-15% of cases. Given his immediate improvement in his symptoms, including reduced "swollen" appearance, and attitude change, we think he will continue to improve! He is a German Shepherd lovers dream. Schnapps seems to be pretty indifferent to other dogs here, and even might be fine with cats! He seems to be housetrained and crate trained. He thinks that BALL IS LIFE! He has a favorite toy football here that he absolutely adores and brings with him everywhere. All he wants you to do is throw it. Schnapps is a typical, vocal GSD. He will howl a bit when left alone, and all he wants is to be near his person. He is scared of storms, but as long as he has a place to hide with his ball, by his favorite human he does just fine. He is great in the car. Schnapps adoption fee is $150 and it includes his neuter, microchip, vaccination, negative heartworm test, and full send out blood panel and biopsy.
