When adopting an animal from the New Albany Floyd County Animal Shelter please be prepared to provide the following information:
1. A valid driver’s license or current photo ID with your correct address. County of residency does not affect your ability to adopt.
2.Current vaccine records for all the animals in your home. Rabies and distemper vaccines must be current on all your animals to protect them from any illness your new pet may expose them to.
3.Proof of homeownership or a current lease and paid pet deposit receipt as proof that your landlord will allow you to have pets in your home.
We have a first come first serve policy at the NAFC animal control and shelter. Pending adoptions are only available for one business day after they have been placed. Second placed pending adopters will be called at 4pm on the next business day.
We are now able to offer adopters a new way to search for pets! You may register for our wish-list program. To be placed on our wish list, simply fill-out our adoption questionnaire and instead of indicating your interest in a specific animal tell us what type, or breed of animal you are interested in adopting. For example, you could register for a Yorkshire Terrier, Shih-Tzu, Border Terrier, or a Siamese cat and when we have that breed available for adoption we would contact you before we made those breeds available to the public for adoption. You may also register for a specific type of animal. For example you could register for a dog that weighs less than 25 pounds, has long hair, and is over a year old. If an animal were placed for adoption that met those qualifications we would contact you regardless of the breed or mix of breeds. Please remember that the more specific you are the longer it may be for us to find your new forever friend.
The adoption fees are $70.00 for dogs, $50.00 for cats, and kittens < 4lbs are $60.
The adoption fees for dogs include: spay/neuter, heartworm test, worming, preventive vaccines, bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine, frontline flea treatment, leash, microchip, small bag of science diet, and adoption starter kit.
The adoption fees for cats include: spay/neuter, FIV/FELV test, worming, preventive vaccines, frontline flea treatment, microchip, cat carrier, small bag of science diet, and adoption starter kit.
Our Pet Pointers Training Academy offers beginner dog obedience classes. Our shelter adopters can take advantage of classes for $20.00, while the general public is welcome for a $55.00 fee.
