My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.young girl eager for fresh start and love!

LEONDRA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:   Leondra       Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and lab mix

Best Guess for Age:  7 months as of April 2025     Gender:   Female

Approximate Weight:  29 lbs as of 3/22/25; she is still growing!

Gets Along With:  Leondra has lived with other dogs and cats! We haven't seen her with kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!

Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to come up here after completing heartworm treatment.

Special Adoption Considerations: Leondra is a truly Lucky Dog. Although she has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.  We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.

Leondra is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweetie is barely out of puppyhood and has all that great young-dog energy and is eager to get her own humans for sniffy walks, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up. Quality kibble and treats and a cushy dog bed sound good to her, as do checking out all the toys to see which she likes best and going to dog school so she can show how super smart she is.

She has quite the stockpile of adoring gazes and tail wags saved up and is ready to bestow them all upon her new family, along with loyal companionship. What do you say? Is this sweet face the one you want to wake up to every morning for many, many days to come?

What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster.

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
