My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Attention, Beagle lovers! Dixie is here to steal your heart (and maybe your snacks). This sweet-as-honey, 20lb, 3-year-old beagle has mastered the art of belly rub appreciation and is ready to trade in her 'Superstar Mama of Six' title for Spoiled Family Dog. She’s gentle and affectionate but don’t be fooled—there’s a mischievous little spark behind her soulful eyes!

Now that her puppies are a bit older, Dixie is rediscovering her playful side. On NICE days, she’s up for walks, hikes, and grand sniffing adventures, so a fenced yard (aka her kingdom) to explore would be ideal. Bonus points if there’s another pup to keep her company!

Let’s talk about The Beagle Soundtrack™. Dixie isn’t a constant talker, but when she does make her voice heard—trust us, you’ll know! So, unfortunately this means an apartment/condo would not work for this girl.

When it comes to walks, Dixie is ALL IN—ears flapping, tail wagging and nose to the ground, full-speed ahead! Sometimes she gets a little too excited and pulls, but she’s working on her leash manners. She’s also house-trained but still bouncing back from motherhood, so a little patience will go a long way.

Health-wise, Dixie is heartworm negative but recently tested positive for Lyme’s and ehrlichiosis--thank you, ticks :-(  The good news? These conditions are TOTALLY manageable with year-round preventatives (a MUST), occasional bloodwork, and some inexpensive meds if a 'flare' should occur. No biggie—just an excuse for extra TLC!

Adoption Fee: $300 (Includes her spay, microchip, vaccines, and current month flea/tick/heartworm prevention)

Dixie is ready to trade foster life for a loving home full of adventures, belly rubs, and ALL the sniffs. Could you be you her happily-ever-after?  The first step in the adoption process is to complete a no-obligation  adoption application  at  www.pawsandprayers.org .

More about this rescue

Our primary mission is to rescue, care for, and find loving homes for homeless cats and dogs. Our secondary goal is to make sure all of these animals are spayed or neutered. It is a big task, but we are ready! Paws and Prayers is based in the Northeast Ohio region. We operate as a non-profit, incorporated organization that functions solely on the efforts of foster homes and adoption volunteers.
