DOB: 4/01
Heidi and her brother, Toby were lucky. They were part of a sizeable group of cats who were rescued and tamed over the years by Dorothy, a first-class feral cat wrangler.
Dorothy did not make it a habit to go looking for stray cats. They found her, and soon Dorothy’s place became known as a safehouse for “cats in transition.”
Heidi and Toby were born under some shrubbery in Dorothy’s yard to a semi-feral mom. Since their mom was only half tame, Dorothy knew she’d have to spend extra time socializing the kittens so they’d grow up being comfortable around humans.
The brother and sister bonded so strongly to Dorothy that she adopted them herself. As the youngest in her household, these kittens gave her mature cats hours of entertainment and plenty of opportunities to learn new games.
In 2004, Dorothy was diagnosed with cancer. Although it was difficult for her to even talk about her illness, when she understood that she had little time left, Dorothy made plans with JCHS for the continued care of Heidi, Toby, Mr Mittens, Buster, and Spook.
(Far too many beloved companion animals become instantly homeless upon the death of their caregivers. Please take time now to discuss options with your lawyer and make provisions for your animals in your will.)
As she had hoped, Dorothy was able to die at home, amidst the cats who had given her so much joy. Heidi and her housemates (all neighborhood rescues) have made many new friends in fostercare.
Heidi is an active, affectionate, and athletic cat who has a high need to know everything about her environment. Like what’s inside the cupboards and on top of the refrigerator and on the other side of the closet door. Heidi and Toby will be placed as a pair.
Heidi likes: to explore; the company of other cats.
She dislikes: being told no.
Heidi is very confident, plays well with other cats, and quite amenable to change.
