Poor Esther has been through a lot in the past few weeks. She went from having a home of her own, to being dumped at an animal control facility, then to her foster home where she is now. It was pretty stressful and traumatic for her and she was quite grumpy at first, but now that she's settled in, she's letting her true colors shine. Esther is a sweet and friendly girl and she really does want to be loved and receive affection. She came from a situation where there were young kids in the home, so I have to wonder if they treated/handled her properly as she was pretty hand-shy initially. Her fur was also severely matted and definitely caused her some discomfort, but nothing a good grooming and bath couldn't help.
Now that she's had some time to acclimate, she's become quite the love bug and enjoys pets and attention, and will rub against my leg to show her affection. She can get a bit overstimulated at times, but will give signs including pressing her ears back and swishing her tail rapidly to let you know when she's had enough petting. However I do think this is a situational and fear-based reaction as she's gotten much better about accepting pets and no longer hisses or swats when I reach towards her. She just needs time to settle in, lots of stability and a loving, calm and cat savvy person(s) who will take it slow with her and allow her to build trust with her people. In return, she'll reward you with lots of love and purrs and in time, I'm confident that she'll become a wonderful companion and lap cat.
Esther is spayed, front-declawed, current on vaccinations, and recently had a dental cleaning. She seems to do okay with other cats as long as they respect her space and aren't dominant towards her. Not sure about dogs, but definitely no kids. She currently has a lion cut due to the matting in her fur, but with proper care and brushing, she will grow out a glorious silky coat.
