River is a handsome all black cutie with a heart of gold. He has not had much socialization so everything is new and scary to him. He presses himself up to your legs when he is unsure in his surroundings or new people. (He seems more at ease with men right now) He sleeps overnight in his crate without any incidents, is learning that other dogs are OK to play with after he gets to know them, and wags his tail when meeting our cats. He is just recovering from his neuter procedure so we don’t fully know his energy level and play style, but would anticipate a medium energy rough and tumble puppy.

We have started him with basic obedience and he is picking it up quickly. His forever family will need to continue basic training and have patience to enable him to gain confidence in himself. Additional adoption info

An applicant first submits an application form with a non-refundable $10.00 (cash or check only) processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $250.00 (cash or check ONLY) minimum adoption donation to VGSR to help defray the costs of getting the dog fully vetted and ready to be adopted, and the adoption is completed.

More about this rescue

We provide a valuable service by finding good homes for the German Shepherd Dogs in our care. In the seven plus years that we have been in existence, we have found homes for over 2,400 deserving dogs. We are currently enlisting active volunteers to help with the task of placing some really wonderful, but homeless, German Shepherd Dogs. Our goal is to place all GSDs that are accepted into our Rescue in loving homes in which the GSD and the family will thrive together.
