Meet Layla, a sweet and playful 7lb Maltese who is just about to turn one in May! Layla is as loving as she is adorable. She’s great with dogs of all sizes, and her friendly nature makes her an instant companion to anyone she meets. She loves being the center of attention and will follow you around, eager to be by your side, whether you’re out shopping or just lounging at home.
She’s great on a leash and enjoys short walks outside. She’s always on alert, ready to let you know if someone is at the door with her little bark. Though Layla has been introduced to a crate, she’d much prefer to sleep in a cozy bed beside yours, and she’ll let you know if she’s not fond of being confined. She’s also doing well with potty training, and she loves cuddling up in her bed for a good nap.
Layla’s a little social butterfly. If you’re working at your desk or watching TV, she’ll happily curl up in your lap or sit beside you, content to just be nearby. If you’re busy with other things, she’ll happily settle on her own bed or play with her favorite toy, checking in on you every now and then to make sure you’re not going too far. Road trips are one of her favorites. She’s great in the car and loves her little seat beside you. She’s also a big fan of spa days and comes back looking fresh and feeling fabulous after visiting the groomer. 🥰
Sadly, when Layla came to us, we noticed she wasn’t using her back right leg. After an X-ray, our vet confirmed that she had an old fracture that is due to trauma or genetic factor that requires femoral head ostectomy surgery, a procedure used to relieve pain from hip dysplasia, arthritis, or traumatic injuries.
Sweet Layla recently underwent FHO surgery to help her regain mobility and live pain free. Right now, she's in the early stages of recovery, resting comfortably in her crate and getting lots of love and care. The vet has prescribed two weeks of strict rest along with pain and anti-inflammatory medications to help her heal. She has a follow up appointment in two weeks, where will check her progress and see how she's doing. Layla is such a strong girl, and we can't wait to see her get back on her paws! Stay tuned for more updates as she heals. You can follow us on instagram or facebook to see these updates sooner @k9oasisrescue (:
We’re hoping to find a patient and loving forever home that can provide Layla with the care she needs as she heals. If you have experience with hip conditions or are simply someone who can offer a calm, loving environment, Layla will flourish with you.
Her adoption fee is $3,000, and any donations to help cover her medical costs are greatly appreciated. If you’re interested in adopting or donating, please reach out to us for more details. Thank you for considering Layla, and we hope to hear from you soon! ❤️

More about this rescue
Rescue has always been a part of my life. As the oldest of eight children, I grew up helping my parents run their dog rescue, watching firsthand the dedication, hard work, and love it took to save lives. While it was challenging, their success and passion inspired me. I eventually took a break from rescue work to serve in the Navy, but after my contract ended, I found myself with time on my hands while my husband was still in. That’s when I decided to start my own rescue in Virginia. Once his contract was over, we moved to California to be closer to family, and I continued this mission full-time.
At K9 Oasis Rescue, our goal is to save and rehabilitate abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs. We provide them with medical care and a safe place in our home until they are fully vetted and ready for adoption. My parents specialized in rescuing pit bulls, and now we focus more so on other breeds. While we still try to help as many as possible, we now focus on dogs with less aggressive demeanors to ensure we can provide the best care and rehabilitation for each one.
Rescue work isn’t easy. It’s emotional, exhausting, and sometimes heartbreaking. But at the end of the day, seeing a once-neglected dog transform into a happy, healthy companion makes it all worth it. Every wagging tail, every moment of trust gained, and every adoption story fuels my passion. Growing up, I watched my parents dedicate their lives to this work, and now I truly understand why they never gave up. These dogs don’t just need saving; they need someone to believe in them. That’s why I do this! Because every dog deserves a second chance, and I want to be the one to give it to them.
Thank you for supporting small rescues and opening your hearts and homes to dogs that just need some extra love and support ❤️🐾
