My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** If you are interested in adopting Penny, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ **

Penny is a 1 and a half year old Chihuahua / Pug mix who weighs a petite 9.5 lbs. This little lady was found as a stray in New Mexico, and no one came to claim her. Understandably, she was a bit confused at the shelter, but the moment she left that environment, her true personality started to shine!
Now that she's safe and loved, Penny is showing what a sweet and gentle girl she is.

From Penny's foster:

"Penny is really such an incredible and sweet dog. She is also a major cuddler!!!

She is house trained (woohoo!) she hasn’t had any accidents and potties right away when taken out on leash.

Sleeps nicely in her crate beside my bed - although her preference would be sleeping in your bed or on a cozy blanket pile beside the bed!

She is ok being in her crate when home alone - she will let you know she misses you by crying lightly but this is only when you first leave -- she will settle down soon and sleep. I think though that she would do fine being left out when home alone - she hasn’t been mischievous and is very well mannered.

She’s a bit shy until she gets comfortable and then she ADORES you! She bonded to me after about 10 minutes and is my little shadow. Anytime I’m sitting down she’s immediately in my lap or cuddled up next to me for a nap.

She seems to be a bit less sure of men - she’s still warming up to my boyfriend. When I’m home she’ll sit next to him on the couch but she’ll always choose me over him and if I leave her alone with him, she feels nervous around him. Unfortunately she likely had a man be unkind to her in the past before she was rescued.

She’s learning to explore the house more but likes to stick to wherever her people are.

She walks well on her leash but is still learning about the big scary world. Big wind gusts are scary! She’s definitely a flight risk if she gets spooked, so her adopter should never leave her unattended in their yard, nor have her off leash in public.

She’s efficient about doing her business and is slowly starting to explore a bit further on her little walks. With time I know she’ll grow much more confident.

She’ll make you feel like the most important person! Once she loves you anytime you walk in the room she’s ready to greet you with her wiggles and kisses and stare at you adoringly.

She’s a great work from home buddy - she likes to choose a cozy spot to curl up by you and snooze."

Penny may be small, but she has a heart full of love! She adores gentle affection and will happily curl up in your lap for a cozy nap. She’s the perfect mix of playful and snuggly once comfortable —whether it’s trotting around the yard with her friends or curling up for some quiet time, she’s happy as long as she’s with her people. Penny would do well in a calm, loving home where she can continue to build confidence and feel safe. With patience and love, she’s sure to blossom into the most loyal little companion.

We don't know if Penny has had any formal training. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young dog whose self-esteem will fly high while she masters her skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice.
Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.
Our training requirement is to help every adoption be successful.

Penny has been fully vetted, is up to date on her vaccines, and spayed.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
