As a foster-to-adopt family, you will have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until her new forever family can be found.
During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.
Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.
Martha / Female / 2.5 years old / Weight 70 lbs / Lab Mix / Great Second (or Third!) Dog / Good With Kids / Likely Fine With Cats / Sweet and Gentle Girl / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto
Meet Martha! Miss Martha is the sweetest girl with so much love to give. With her beautiful puppy eyes and gentle disposition, she melts hearts wherever she goes. Martha came to us from our partner rescue in Tennessee where she grew up with her littermates. With each passing day she is learning so much and growing more confident as she explores her new world in Toronto. She is a wonderful companion and is sure to bring so much joy to the lucky family who welcomes her home.
Martha is a gentle and lovely soul and has really come out of her shell since coming into foster care. Martha’s favourite activities are playing fetch in the park, running around High Park with her dog besties, and getting all the new smells on her walks, and playing with her favourite toys.
Martha is a very obedient and polite girl. She has taken to house training very quickly, and is fully potty trained. She is great in a car and loves to go on rides with her foster dad. She has displayed no issues with resource guarding, and is so gentle when playing with friends and taking treats. In her home, Martha likes following her foster dad around like a shadow, while she also seeks comfort and reassurance from him. She is trusted free in the house without issue and sleeps on a bed next to her foster through the night. She has been left alone for up to 6 hours without issue.
Martha loves her walks and is great on leash. She rarely pulls and is easy to redirect if needed. She is very respectful and has never barked at humans or dogs during her walks. She is still building confidence in loud and busy areas so patience and support from her new family will be needed to help her reach her potential. Martha is working hard on basic training and is very food motivated. She has a strong desire to please her family and ongoing training is fun! She is perfecting her recall and working on shaking a paw.
Martha is both curious and cautious when meeting new dogs and appreciates calm and patient dogs who give her time to warm up. Once she’s comfortable, she has become best friends with many dogs in the neighbourhood and will show her energetic and playful side. She is very social with dogs she’s comfortable with and will play bow and make sure everyone is having a good time. She has the funniest and goofiest leaps and jumps when she’s playing with her friends. She would be a great second dog and would love a home with a confident dog she could learn from and gain confidence and energy from.
While Martha can be shy in meeting new people, she has made so much progress in welcoming people into her home. She does prefer to meet new human friends outdoors - especially if there are treats or a ball involved! Martha visited a home with a four year old child and a cat for a few days and was very gentle and patient with both. Her sweet and gentle disposition lead us to believe she would do well with dog-savvy children old enough to understand and respect her boundaries.
Martha's ideal home would be in a more quiet neighbourhood, with access to a yard for her to run around in. She currently lives in a condo near High Park and does fine in a condo setting. She would benefit from a patient family and a quiet home where she can feel secure and let her lovely personality shine. She bonds with people quickly, loves love, and would be happy living wherever her person is. Martha lived with another dog prior to coming into our care and would do best with a resident dog to help build her confidence. Martha is the sweetest girl and we are looking forward to finding her the perfect forever family.

More about this rescue
Established in 2016, Fetch + Releash is a volunteer run dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs in need. Our foster dogs come from a variety of different backgrounds such as shelters, strays and surrendered pets, both locally and abroad. Through our network of volunteers, foster homes, trainers and veterinarians, we strive to give every dog the loving forever family they deserve. As a foster-based rescue, our dogs live in private homes across the Greater Toronto Area where they receive the love and attention they need to ready them for adoption.
A dog is a lifetime commitment and not to be discarded due to health, lifestyle change or inconvenience. Some of the top reasons dogs end up in shelters are lack of training, lifestyle changes (i.e. new baby, marriage), relocation, cost of dog ownership, not enough time for pet etc. Our goal is to ensure our adoptive families are well versed in the realities of dog ownership and ready to make a lifetime commitment.
