MISSY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:  Missy        Best Guess for Breed:  Shepherd and coonhound mix

Best Guess for Age:
2 years as of March 2025         SEX:   Female

Approximate Weight:  50 lbs

Gets Along With:  Missy does wonderfully with other dogs. We haven't seen her with kids or cats but are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters.

Currently Living at:  DC area boarding partner

All about Missy:

This sweet young girl came to us fr
om the Dogs Playing For Life Canine Center campus in Florida. There, she received basic training and enrichment. Missy worked on the Sit and Place commands there along with on loose leash walking and sitting at open doors, waiting to be released to go out. She learned to play with enrichment toys such as food-filled Kongs and food puzzles.

She also showed herself to be a very dog social pup. She was great in playgroups, helpful to dogs who are less well socialized, and has a gentle playstyle but is also able to match the playstyle of some dogs who like a bit more boisterous play.

Here's what her foster said when she arrived in the DC area:

'Oh my. Missy is such a sweet, sweet girl! She was hesitant after the long van transport but a couple of treats made me her new best friend! She transformed into a happy girl and kept licking my face - she was all about the snuggles and I swear she would have crawled inside my skin if she could have.

She is polite in the home! When I was working, she lay calmly and quietly. Whenever I indicated to her that I was available - she was right there, asking for pets and giving me kisses. And she clearly was well trained before she came to me! She lay quietly in her crate when I had to go out and slept there overnight. When I opened her crate, she waited for me to invite her out - she didn't just rush out. I can see she is so incredibly eager to please. She is highly responsive and will thrive on training.

I have two of my own dogs, 8 pounds and 19 pounds. She was lovely with them! Her play style is very gentle and sweet and she matched their energy. I could see her 'read' my dogs and meet them where they were.

On leash, she's clearly also had some training. She kept a loose leash. Some noisier traffic in my part of the city startled her, but she was responsive to me. She likes seeing other dogs pass on leash as well - she's definitely dog friendly, and I think she would benefit from ongoing opportunities to make and interact with pup pals.

Missy is just such a wonderful and loving girl. Once she settles in and connects with her new humans that will be it! They'll be overloaded with all the love and happiness in that adorable dog. They will be very lucky to have each other.

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
