My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maurice is is an estimated 13 years old, seeking a calm home for his retired years. He is quite shy and reserved at first, but once he is comfortable, he showers you with love and affection.

Poor Maurice has definitely been through it, and is quite nervous about sudden movements, loud noises, or things being lifted over him. He is tentative around people who are tall or standing. We believe he may have been abused in the past due to his hesitance and nervousness around new things, hence his need for quiet and tender companionship.

He would do very well in a calm, quiet home. Perhaps with a retiree or someone who works from home and can provide him a stable and loving environment. He is an excellent work buddy and enjoys sitting in a chair next to my desk as I work from home, with the occasional hop onto the keyboard to help with emails (but really he wants you to pet him and give him kisses). He makes the sweetest little biscuits in soft fluffy blankets and he loves to curl up and watch movies together (he's a big fan of the Hallmark Channel!)

He does not appear to be a fan of dogs or rambunctious kitties, but he may do well with another calm feline friend. We believe he would do best without children.

He also needs someone who is dedicated to his health. He came into rescue with horrible teeth and had to have all of his teeth removed (which leads to his tongue sticking out periodically, ADORABLE!). He was severely overweight (almost 15 pounds!) and while he has lost some weight with proper diet, he needs someone who is committed to providing wet food only (he seems to prefer Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers). Due to his weight, we believe he may have some arthritis and is currently getting Adequan injections once a week (we can train you!). He needs routine veterinary care as he is also FIV+ (which can lead to a decreased immune system). When stressed, he does tend to overgroom and can create little sore spots on his back.

As you can see, Maurice is a very delicate boy and needs stability, a calm environment and tender love in his life. He brings a smile to my face daily and in the right home he will absolutely thrive.

His adoption fee is $75. He is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated.
