UPDATE ON SOPHIA (BUT MAKE SURE YOU READ HER STORY BELOW). Sophia is doing so wonderfully in her foster home, she loves both her foster mom and dad. There are 3 other dogs in the home-one of them has taken Sophia under her "paw" to teach her the ropes of being a treasured dog-Sophia cuddles, she follows her friends outside to do her business in the yard (will also use puppy pads) and it is such an amazing transformation. Great in the car, always gentle, just a diamond in the rough. Looking for her forever home, a special loving family to continue her progress. She needs a fairly calm home, at least at the beginning. Any children should be older (12+) and dog savvy.

You can foster to adopt this precious little dog. Sophia, and 62 other Chihuahuas, were removed from a home in Gettysburg where they were living in deplorable conditions without access to food and water. The Adams County SPCA took custody of the dogs before Sophia came to Almost Home dog rescue.
Sophia is a brave and sweet little dog who is learning that human touch is a good thing. (update-she now loves it) She is approximately 4 years old and 11 pounds. She is making amazing progress quickly by letting her foster feed her by hand, pet her, and even pick her up. After a couple of days, she would come to her foster and likes to go to sleep with her foster sitting beside her with her hand on her back. She was a model patient at her vet visit and has never shown any aggression, despite a life where humans, not only did not give her love, but even the basics of a clean place to lay down and food and water.
She has been fearful and will need some time to adjust to this new life where her needs are met. Sophia is looking for a foster, or even better, a foster to adopt where she can grow more confident as food, water, shelter, and love are consistently provided. She needs a calm home, at least at the beginning. Any children should be older (12+) and dog savvy.

The adoption fee is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including age appropriate vaccinations, worming, flea/tick preventative and spay/neuter. All of our dogs will be microchipped.
