Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bella is a very sweet, lovable sheltie who wants to be included in the household’s activities. Bella is adorable, petite, and calm, and she can runs fast when the word, "treat" is mentioned!
AGE: 5 years
SIZE: Bella is a petite Sheltie who is overweight at 23 lbs. and should be 16 lbs. Her adopter will need to measure her food, feed at scheduled feeding times, limit treats and provide appropriate exercise to help Bella make her goal weight.
TEMPERAMENT: Bella takes some time to warm up, but loves attention once she feels safe. She will follow you around and wags her tail to show you she’s happy to see you.
FENCE: Required.
DOGS: Bella gets along well with the other Shelties in her foster home and looks to them for leadership. She likes to follow other dogs and copy their activities, but isn’t really fast enough to fully engage in them, which is quite funny at times. She has always lived with other dogs, so needs a home with a canine companion.
CATS: Bella gets along with cats.
KIDS: Bella really likes older, calm, well-behaved children who understand how to behave around dogs, and she will sit by them for petting. She has not been around young children.
CRATE TRAINED: Bella is crate trained, but can be left alone in the house with friendly, safe dogs for short periods of time (she just sleeps on a dogbed). Bella likes to go in her crate to feel safe during stressful times, but stays out more and more as she feels comfortable. She should be allowed access to a crate in her new home.
HOUSETRAINED: Yes.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Bella’s foster family has been working on getting her to feel comfortable and happy in the initial weeks in foster care. She comes when called and will benefit from additional training.
LEASH MANNTERS: Bella can walk on a leash, but is pretty slow - until she loses some weight. She will not be able to go for long walks at this point, but does like to get outside. She
"waddles" when walking, but runs a bit outside in the fenced yard.
CAR RIDES: Bella rides well in a car in a kennel. She needs to be helped in and likes a small treat when she gets in. She does not bark, whine or get carsick.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate - the excess weight is holding her back from being more active at this time. She does run around in the house and in the fenced yard with the other dogs.
BARKING: Bella is pretty quiet, esp. for a Sheltie!
HEALTH ISSUES: Bella had a dental with extractions while in rescue. Other than being overweight, no known health issues.
EXPERIENCED HOME: Bella needs someone who is patient and knowledgeable about shy dogs.
This sweet girl is not demanding - all she wants is some love, a comfy bed, and, being a Sheltie, she likes her meals! She will bond readily with someone who loves and understands her and is patient with her.
