Mocha is a shy girl who is still figuring out how to navigate the shelter environment. She’s nervous on leash and needs a little gentle coaxing through the loud kennels, but once outside, she takes comfort in quietly exploring.
Once outside, Mocha kept to herself, showing little interest in treats, toys, or play. With a little time, she slowly began to warm up, even soliciting a bit of attention by jumping up on her handler. Despite her nervousness, Mocha accepts pets and is willing to build trust at her own pace.
This sweet girl will need a patient and understanding adopter who can give her time to decompress and gain confidence.
Mocha has so much potential and just needs the right person to show her that the world isn’t so scary. Could that be you?
Come meet her at ACCT Philly any day between 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and help her find the loving home she deserves!

BEHAVIOR NOTES:
03/15/2025 volunteer notes:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
When I approached the kennel, Mocha was standing near the front of the kennel. I spoke to her with some baby talk and she was head tilting. I offered treats which she did not accept. She was panting. She had soft eyes. Her body seemed somewhat tense and her tail was tucked. I put the leash in the kennel for her to sniff. I attempted to lasso her but she dodged her leash multiple times. I was able to get her on the leash and she exited the kennel.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls some on leash. Nervous and dodgey on leash. Froze & needed coaxing through thresholds.
HANDLING :
I took Mocha to the play yard with another volunteer. We initially started walking on leash. She was sniffing and exploring. I drooped the leash and she continued sniffing. She peed and pooped in the run, she might have some level of house training. She was trembling in her back legs. She avoided eye contact with the handlers and did not solicit any attention. Her tail remained slightly tucked throughout her time in the yard. She did not take treats or show any interest in play or toys. She was skiddish and head shy in the yard. A staff member briefly entered the yard. She sniffed him briefly and went back to exploring the yard. We returned inside to the behavior room. She did not take any treats and continued to have no interest in toys inside. She spent most of the time in the behavior room exit searching. Her body language was tense and her tail was slightly tucked. She spent some time watching people walking by through the window. A group of volunteers unexpectedly entered the room, she flinched and tensed up. After some time exploring, she did come solicit some attention from the handlers, jumping up. She accepted pets. She continued to be tense and tremble mildly. She was panting in the behavior room and had tight lips. Mocha allowed the handler to pick up the leash and walked well back to the kennel. When Mocha arrived at her kennel she turned around and refused to go in. We tried to throw high value treats inside but she did not follow. The handler tried to turn back and approach the kennel at a running speed, she again turned around, refusing to enter. The handler tried to take a step in the kennel but Mocha froze at the threshold and refused to step in. The handler ask the ACA to use his leash around her back end to lift Mocha in the kennel. When the ACA approached, Mocha flinched and moved out of the way of her leash. Mocha had whale eyes and tense lips. The ACA was able to get his leash under her bottom end and we were able to lift Mocha into her kennel.
