My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When Lexi's rescuer walked down the aisle of the scary Texas shelter, she was shocked to see the adorable (and extremely dirty and very sad) Lexi tucked tightly into a cage...her time was up.

Lexi ended up at a high-kill shelter through no fault of her own. She couldn't help that her guardians were irresponsible and made no effort to keep her safe and secure. She also couldn't help that they made the decision that it was too much trouble to care for her in any way.

When Lexi received her interstate health certificate we were informed that she's very healthy, sweet as can be and blind due to either cataracts or her DNA. Her rescuers were initially surprised as Lexi seemed to function so well with a very positive attitude. They decided her blindness made her all the more irresistible with her loving nature and sweet smile.

It was a week or so later that Farfel's got a call describing how incredibly cute and sweet this Poodle / Maltese is..and the need to save her life. We immediately agreed and Lexi became a very treasured Farfel's dog. She earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with her great personality (just a bit shy initially but warms up with kindness) and sweet and positive attitude toward all those who are loving to her.

At about 5ish years old and 19 lbs, this very beautiful girl is a blank slate waiting for positive input and guidance to be the best dog she's capable of being. We'd love to match Lexi to a family that will spend lots of time with this very portable girl. She's a perfect size to accompany her family just about everywhere smaller dogs are welcome...and would love it!

Positive reinforcement/force-free group obedience class will not only provide socialization and great skills...but will cement the relationship between Lexi and her family. She's a super-smart girl that learns skills easily and really likes to please her people. These are the qualities that make a dog shine when learning their behavioral skills. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area.

When Lexi turns that gentle look in your direction you can't help but smile at her sweet ways. You can see just a bit of a sign that this loving girl has had challenges in her life. But not for her to be negative..a smile, a wag and a kiss of love is more Lexi's style.

Farfel's Rescue is searching for dog-crazy retirees for Lexi who are searching for a fuzzy best friend to join their family. She would thrive on the time and attention that retirees often put into their pets. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice. Lexi is too sensitive a dog to be left alone for the long hours that a full-time job outside of the home demands.

Lexi, once bonded, will be a loyal and positive companion as well as the greatest lap dog ever. She will be overjoyed to spend time with her guardians, perhaps hiking on gorgeous trails or taking neighborhood walks or best of all at days end, cuddling and enjoying each others company. Lexi would also love time with small or medium-size dogs who can be gentle playmates. When you're only 19 lbs, even a well-adjusted dog can be intimidated by larger, rambunctious dogs.

When Lexi was rescued her coat was shelter-tired. Lexi, with her non-shedding hair, will require a commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement is so important for longevity and coat care). This daily supplement will keep Lexi's hair cottony-soft and super- healthy. .

Lexi will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 3/18/2025. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, kind and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Lexi please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
