Meet Dublin, a sweet white and black cat who could use a little love. He started out nervous at the shelter, but with time, he has started to come out of his shell. He now enjoys gentle pets and rolling on his back in a playful gesture. He still hides away from the world when he feels uncertain, though with some time and care, he will learn to trust you and feel safe. This cat really is a love bug; he just needs a home where he can decompress. He is also neutered and up to date on all core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
