Cassidy was originally found as a stray Texas. She is said to be a chi/pug mix approx ~3 yrs old and 13 lbs. She was adopted into a loving home in 2024, but was returned to TXCR due to circumstances beyond her control.
Cassidy has an adorable underbite. She loves people and will greet new folks with plenty of licks and love. She is high energy but is never aggressive; Cassidy is also highly food-motivated, and is INCREDIBLY smart. She learns new commands and tricks quickly and is also clever enough to nab human food when you aren’t paying attention.
Cassidy is playful and inquisitive. She derives great joy from solving enrichment puzzles such as snuffle mats or extracting treats out of a Kong. Cassidy is also an affectionate little lap dog.
She does get nervous at the vet and especially when her nails are being trimmed, and will squirm when held in these cases. Otherwise, she's a total cuddle bug!
Cassidy would do best in a home with access to a secured yard, but could also live in a condo/apartment with sufficient exercise/enrichment. She is best suited to a family with an active lifestyle. Indoors, she is typically quiet but barks at noises at the door. She has excellent crate manners and is fully potty trained to go outside. Cassidy was also previously trained on an Invisible Fence.
Cassidy gets along well with dogs 50 lbs and less, and would do best with a matched companion to play with. She was also very friendly with her previous owner's cat.
Cassidy generally walks well on a leash but can be reactive towards other dogs; she whines and barks at others while on-leash. Cassidy requires an escape-proof harness she can’t back out of. She needs continued practice with redirecting her attention away from dogs & squirrels.
Overall, Cassidy is a joy, and will thrive in a home with lots of love, activity, enrichment and cuddles.
Medical note: Cassidy is allergic to chicken.
