WINONA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Winona Best Guess for Breed: Terrier and lab mix
Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years as of March 2025 Gender: Female
Approximate Weight:38 lbs
Gets Along With:Winona does well with other dogs. We haven't seen her with kids but would be happy to discuss integration strategies with any potential adopters. We do not recommend her for a home with cats.
Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here!
Special Adoption Considerations: Winona is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Winona is Looking For: Her forever home! She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and is oh so eager to once again have her own humans for sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up. She has all that awesome young-dog energy and is eager to see and experience the world! To explore all the toys! To go to dog school to learn to be the bestest girl! And to make new pup and people pals along the way!
What she wants most of all, though, is to love and be loved, to know where she belongs, to know she's under her own roof every time the sun goes down. In exchange she promises adoring gazes and happy tail wags and snuggles and loyal companionship. What do you say? Is Winona the companion you have been seeking?
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time in foster care.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
