My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Peanut!!!

Peanut is a sweet and gentle 2-year-old pup who is still finding her confidence in the shelter. While she can be a bit shy at first, she is slowly learning to trust and seek out affection from people. With time, patience, and love, we believe her true personality will shine!

We would love for everyone in the home to meet Peanut before adoption. To help Peanut feel safe and comfortable, we recommend a home without other dogs or a meet-and-greet may also be helpful to see if they’re a good fit. If you’re looking for a sweet companion who just needs a little time to blossom, Peanut could be the one for you!

She is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives.
If you have further questions, please call the shelter at (517) 626-6060 or email our adoption staff at adoptions@AdoptLansing.org.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We’re glad you’ve decided to adopt a shelter pet!

Public visiting hours at the CAHS Shelter are 12-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday. No appointment necessary. Adoption profiles must be started 15 minutes before close.

It is important to bring any children in the house with you to meet potential pets. We also recommend that all family members be present for an adoption. This will help ensure that the potential pet is the best possible fit for everyone in your family!

What to Bring
Government-issued ID
Cash or a credit card to pay for your adoption fee(s) and optional supplies
A carrier for your adopted cat or a leash and collar for your adopted dog. These items are available for sale at the CAHS Shelter if you do not own them.
About the Adoption
Please plan for approximately an hour to complete your adoption. If the shelter is busy, it could take longer. You will be asked to complete a one-page profile and then an Adoption Counselor will meet with you to discuss your pet(s) of interest.

Animals go home at the time of adoption. Adoption Counselors invest time with you to make sure you’re fully informed before you leave and have all the resources you need to introduce your new pet(s) into your home.

After the Adoption
About a week after you adopt, a CAHS Adoption Counselor will follow-up with you to see how things are going and offer assistance should you need it.

Please note, CAHS does not offer refunds on adoption fees. We encourage you to call regarding any difficulties you have. We have many resources available to help make your adoption a successful match.

More about this shelter

Mission

To promote the humane treatment of companion animals through protection, placement, education, and example.

Vision

Capital Area Humane Society envisions a community that values the human-animal bond and where all animals are healthy and safe.

Is CAHS associated with any other organization?

No. CAHS is a local and independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Though we do share a common name, “Humane Society”, it is a descriptor of the services we provide and not an indication of any affiliation. We are not a part of any regional, statewide, or national organization.

How does CAHS differ from Animal Control?

CAHS is not a government agency and we receive zero dollars through tax funding. We serve the greater mid-Michigan region and are not bound by county lines. As well, we are a surrender-only facility.
