My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you’re looking for perfection, congratulations—you’ve just found it. Seriously, take a moment to soak it in. From his perfectly shaped ears to his award-winning markings to the face that stares straight into your soul (and judges you just a little for not having an app in for him yet), Black Canyon of the Gunnison is the total package. Yes, we know that name is a mouthful, so feel free to call him Gunnison… or His Royal Floofiness. Either works. Now, don’t keep him waiting—greatness like this doesn’t just sit around forever!

Looking for a pint-sized pup who won’t grow into a 100lb fluffy land cloud? Meet Gunnison, the tiny but mighty 6-week-old, 4lb Shepherd mix who is small enough to fit in your arms but big enough to steal your heart (and probably your snacks). If the idea of a Pyrabear taking over your couch terrifies you, this little dude is the perfect alternative—compact, portable, and full of personality. Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: for some incomprehensible reason, black dogs tend to get overlooked. But hear us out—Gunnison is absolute perfection. Seriously, he’s like a limited edition puppy, and you don’t want to be the person who regrets passing up a collector’s item. As for his social life? He’s playful with his siblings, intrigued by the big dogs, and hasn’t been fostered with cats or kids—but let’s be real, he’s 4lbs. He’s not going to be running the household (yet). He hasn’t met a ton of people, but he’s already obsessed with his foster mom and soaking up attention like a tiny, adorable sponge.

Now, while Gunnison isn’t expected to morph into a full-blown, couch-dominating behemoth, let’s be clear—he is not a potato. No sir, this little guy has opinions and energy. On a scale from 1 to 10, his energy level sits at a solid 6, which makes him the perfect mix of a squirrel and a mildly confused baby goat. He’s playful, bouncy, and always ready for fun—until he crashes and takes the kind of nap that makes you question if he’s even still breathing. Despite being small enough to smuggle into places he’s probably not allowed, Gunnison is totally down for adventures (you know, once he figures out what those are). He’s a classic puppy—he plays hard, naps harder, and eats like he’s training for a competitive eating contest. He’s obsessed with toys, loves wrestling with his siblings, and, most importantly, adores his foster mom. The second she walks in, he’s all heart eyes and tail wags, soaking up every ounce of attention like the little love sponge he is. Basically, Gunnison is a perfect balance of playful fun and tiny cuddly sweetness. If you want a pint-sized best friend with just enough energy to keep life interesting—but not so much that you’ll need a nap just watching him—he’s your guy.

Alright, future adopters, let’s have a very real talk. Gunnison is adorable—no argument there. But don’t let that tiny, innocent face fool you. This is a puppy, which means your life is about to get a whole lot more… eventful. Buckle up.

Socalize: Right now, Gunnison thinks his little world consists of his foster mom, his siblings, and whatever random objects he’s decided to investigate. If you don’t introduce him to new people, dogs, and scary things like vacuum cleaners, he may one day decide that your neighbor’s lawn gnome is an existential threat. So, unless you want a dog who loses his mind every time he sees a bicycle, start early. -Training: Sure, he’s tiny now. But tiny puppies turn into bigger dogs with big opinions if you don’t teach them the basics—like “sit,” “stay,” and “hey, maybe don’t launch yourself onto the dining room table like a caffeinated squirrel.” Potty Training: Right now, Gunnison’s bathroom strategy is simple: go wherever, whenever. Your job? Convince him that your floor is not a toilet. There will be accidents. You’ll step in something unpleasant at least once. But if you stick with it, one day he’ll be house-trained. Now, leash training. He has no idea what this strange piece of fabric is, and when you try to put it on, he’ll likely react like you’re trying to put a sweater on a cat. There will be dramatic protests, possibly some lying on the ground as if he’s been sentenced to life imprisonment, and a lot of confused stares. And finally, puppy-proofing. Anything within reach is fair game—shoes, furniture, power cords, your sanity. If you leave it on the floor, you’re basically offering it as a chew toy. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Alright, folks, here’s your chance to add a tiny whirlwind of personality to your life. Gunnison is waiting for YOU to fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app and make him yours. Don’t leave him hanging—he’s already plotting his next adorable attack on your heart, so let’s get this show on the road! Fill out that application and we’ll send it straight to his foster family, where they’re already mentally preparing for the emotional goodbye. And just a heads up, he’s currently residing in Oklahoma City, OK, so pack your bags and prepare to meet your new partner in crime. Trust us, you’ll want to get this adorable little troublemaker before someone else swoops in and steals the pup that is going to make your life 10X better. What are you waiting for? Let the puppy madness begin!
