Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sabrina von Steina is a beautiful 2-3 year-old shepherd. Sabrina is a sweet and loving girl who is housebroken, crate-trained, and has been well-behaved in a home. She is eager to please and treat-motivated—the kind of pup who is a quick learner. At the rescue she's an extra wonderful office dog. She has an exuberance that is a joy to be around, yet curls up right next to you, or under your desk, to nap while you work. She's curious about the outside world also, and always happy to be out and about to see new things and meet new people. This girl walks wonderfully on leash—staying close and walking nicely by your side, and she has a sweet habit of looking to you to check in to see if all is good. When passing other dogs, she's calm and focused, showing great manners. In playgroups, Sabrina is comfortable and does very well. She explores the yard and greets other dogs politely, preferring calmer ones, while mostly hanging out near her people to soak up affection. She's not cat-friendly but has done well meeting small dogs. Sabrina is a nice manageable size, medium-energy, and ready for her forever home.
Rescued from the South LA animal shelter.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
