My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Petra von Penig is a stunning 16 week old German Shepherd with all the classic characteristics of this gorgeous breed mingled with the best temperament you could ever ask for in a GSD puppy. She was flown in from the Porterville Animal shelter and quickly won the affection of her pilot, charming him on the flight all the way to Westside. This sweet girl checks off everything on your perfect puppy list: friendly and affectionate, medium energy, adaptable, housebroken, crate trained. She loves playing with her doggie foster siblings and will happily play ball and entertain herself with lots of toys. She also loves belly rubs and snuggling up against her humans when it is nap time. Don 't let the sweetness totally fool you, as she is a fierce protector of “her” house and is sure to impress and satisfy your desire for that classic German Shepherd loyalty! That said, Petra is one of the most easy going doggies anyone could ever meet and is what any dog loving person would consider a perfect package. She even passed her cat test. If you would like to give this loving pup the best forever home she deserves, apply today!

Rescued from the Porterville animal shelter.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
