ATDR 3766

Meet Oscar…so sadly, his beloved mom he lived alone with in a travel trailer passed away and it was at least 24 hours before she and Oscar were discovered. Oscar ended up in the care of a friend of a friend and, thankfully, that sweet lady reached out to ATDR.
Oscar is healthy physically, but, understandably, he has been through a lot. He definitely has healing to do emotionally. He's timid and/skittish and when frightened he might attempt to bite.

Oscar's foster mom reports that he’s very sweet with her. He does appear to prefer women over men. He will bark at men but he does warm up to them if given time and space. The lady who surrendered Oscar observed that he was fine with her cat, but he did not like her grand kids (ages 6 and 11) and did not get along with her pit bull. He hasn’t gotten along very well with another larger dog and the other small one in his foster home. Oscar was an only dog in his previous home and he probably prefers it that way. Oscar is working on house training and he is getting the hang of going outside in a yard. He was likely taken outside on a leash in his previous home.

With time and a safe place to decompress, his foster mom believes that Oscar will continue to blossom into a good little companion. He does all the typical cute dachshund things that entertain; e.g., burrowing, zoomies in the backyard, etc. Oscar enjoys soaking up the sun and wearing clothes. Seriously, he got very excited about having the sweater put on him. Some dogs tolerate being 'dressed up' but Oscar gets stoked about it! His fur is sooo soft and his ears are like velvet. Foster mom calls him an 'emotional support wiener' because she could pet him and cuddle him all day long...

This precious little one needs a forever home with a patient mom or couple with some dog experience who will allow him to feel safe and secure again at his own speed. He also needs a home with no other dogs or children to have to deal with. If you would like to open your home and your heart to this tiny treasure, please submit an adoption application for Oscar. With a little time, gentle care and love, he will become a faithful companion and best friend to a lucky someone…
