Here's what the humans have to say about me:
***If you're interested in adopting Katie, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. ***
Meet Katie! This adorable 2-year-old pup is looking for a forever home full of love and snuggles. Katie is a longhaired Dachshund mix (she looks primarily Dachshund to us, but could have some Pomeranian in her or something else, too!) and weighs 16 lbs.
Katie's journey hasn’t been easy, but her resilience and gentle spirit shine through. Katie came from a dog hoarding case, where they rescued more than 15 dogs from one home. She was very nervous when she first arrived to Colorado, but since going into a foster home she has blossomed into a super sweet, cuddly, happy, playful girl!! Katie will thrive in a calmer home, although she loves other dogs. She will just need about a day or two to warm up and show her sweet, affectionate personality.
From Katie's foster:

"Katie is as sweet as can be, albeit a bit timid at first. However, in my six years of fostering scared and shy dogs, I can confidently say Katie is not even close to the most fearful pup I’ve met! After about 3 days, she was totally warmed up! She will do better with a female, as she is more hesitant of men but she has warmed up to my husband a lot.
When I first brought her home, she was too overwhelmed to explore my yard (on a leash), so I carried her inside and set up a safe space in my spare bedroom. With cozy blankets, an open crate, food, water, and plenty of potty pads, I let her decompress on her own terms. That first night, I sat with her, offering high-value treats (rotisserie chicken—her favorite!), and she started to warm up.
Katie quicked showed curiosity about her new surroundings. She’s good with my dogs, though my potbelly pig gave her a bit of a scare at first (understandably so!). Within just a few hours, she began cautiously venturing out, taking small steps toward confidence.
I’ve only had Katie for over a week now, and she's a totally happy dog. With love and gentle encouragement, she will blossom into the wonderful companion she’s meant to be!"

While we don’t know if Katie has had any formal training, she’s at a great age to learn! Positive reinforcement training helps build trust, confidence, and lifelong good behavior. Farfel’s requires adopters to commit to a training program—whether virtual or in-person—to ensure a successful transition for Katie and her new family. We provide every adopter with recommendations for highly regarded, force-free trainers in your area.
Katie is fully vetted and up-to-date on all vaccinations. She was not able to get spayed due to getting a tick-borne illness she got when she was still in New Mexico. Now that she has arrived to Colorado, she is almost finished with her round of medication and will be ready to be spayed soon. Farfel's will cover the full cost of her spay, and spay is required to finalize every adoption.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
**PLEASE NOTE**. If you're truly interested in adopting Alfie please be sure to submit the Farfel's Rescue adoption application that can be found at the link above or at farfels.com. Rescue site applications such as Petfinder or Adoptapet don't provide enough information for us to determine a great match for this very deserving dog and therefore aren't useful. We're sorry, but in many circumstances, we're unable to get back to those those that don't submit a Farfel's adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue!
