My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hattie is at Petsense in West Rome. If you are interested in this cat, please go to the store and meet this sweetheart. You may want to call ahead to ensure this beauty is still there.
Address: 2511 Redmond Cir, Rome, GA 30165
Phone: (706) 232-4820
Adoption Fee: $150

Hattie came to us as a kitten with her Mom. Her Mama was very friendly and got adopted out quickly once she wasn't needed to be with her kitten's any longer. Mom gave birth outdoors, so the kittens had no socialization before coming to Floyd Felines and were a bit fearful of humans. Once Mom was gone, Hattie was really skeptical of what was going on her life. She tended to sit in the back of her kennel and cower when approached. To top it off, she had a bad eye and had to have it medicated often....didn't make her think any better of humans. Even though we were helping her, she just knew we were doing something she didn't like. At last we found a wonderful volunteer to took her to her home and gave her special attention. Hattie's personality burst forth and she became the sweetest most playful kitten ever. Volunteers at the shelter were astounded that this was the same kitten. It shows what love can do for a frightened baby. Read below what her Foster Mother said about her!

Meet Hattie our foster kitty. There's not enough words to describe this beautiful little kitty. We called Floyd Felines asking if we could foster and they said yes we have a shy little girl that her mom was just sent on transport. She of course had an eye issue were she may lose the eye. We went to pick her up and we treated her eye for a few weeks and when she went to the vet to be spayed we found out she was going to be able to keep her eye. We were overjoyed but you see that just makes her even more resilient as you can see her eye doesn't look like the other one. This precious little kitty is the sweetest cat we have ever fostered. She gets along with our cats and dogs. She loves to snuggle with you, lay her head on your shoulder and rub her face on your face. Her favorite thing to do is play with her mouse. She will play for hours with it. My heartfelt wish is for her to find someone who will cherish her as much as we do.

Hattie is all vetted and ready to go to her loving, forever, indoor home. She will always have a bad eye, but it does not impede her health at all. Her adoption fee is $150 and it covers all her vetting.

We have adoptable cats and kittens at Petland in East Rome and Petsense in West Rome, GA or by appointment. We keep our shelter location private so that we do not have kitties dropped off with us.

More about this rescue

Floyd County has the 3rd largest intake of cats in the state, including all Atlanta-area shelters. Floyd Felines was created to stop the weekly euthanasia. We pull sick cats and young kittens out of Floyd County Animal Control, now known as Public Animal Welfare Services, and take them to our private shelter where they are able to get necessary attention. We also pull hundreds of healthy, adoptable cats and kittens to be transported to Northern rescue partners to have higher chances of adoption. This work opens kennels at animal control so that it is no longer required to euthanize for space.

We also have a working cat program, where we match up “feral” cats to approved, outdoor homes where they can control the mice and snake population. These cats are usually some of the first to be euthanized at shelters, so we are thrilled that we are able to provide hope for their futures.
