My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Has your partner hit you with the dreaded "No. More. Dogs." ultimatum? Do they claim there’s “no more room” while conveniently ignoring that one corner of the couch that is totally dog-sized? Are you desperate for cuddles but tired of suffocating under a 100-pound fur avalanche? Well, worry no more! We have the ultimate loophole to your fluffy dilemma—introducing Mother Mary!

Mother Mary is a 2-year-old, 25-pound Schnauzer mix, and if you're not already obsessed with her, give it five seconds. This scruffy little heart-stealer has mastered the art of bending humans to her will—one perfectly timed head tilt and set of puppy-dog eyes at a time. Even your partner who swore "No. More. Dogs." will be eating their words the second she hops into their lap like she was born to be there. And really, who wouldn’t want an adorable, pint-sized scruffball following them everywhere like a fluffy, four-legged shadow? She’s dog-approved, kid-approved, and the embodiment of sweetness and submission. When she arrived with seven (yes, SEVEN) babies, she met the resident pack without so much as a growl or a lip curl. By the next day, she had fully accepted Flora waltzing into the puppy room like she owned the place. As for cats? That’s a mystery, since there isn’t one around to test her, but with her gentle nature, chances are she’d see them as just another friend to charm. When a house full of kids came to visit, she greeted them with enthusiastic kisses but immediately settled when told. She adores people of all ages, firmly believing that strangers are simply future best friends who haven’t pet her yet.

Mary’s energy level is a solid 5 out of 10—right in that sweet spot between “let’s go on an adventure” and “let’s take a nap instead.” She embodies the laid-back confidence of a pigeon that strolls right up to people in the park and the casual enthusiasm of a goldfish who forgets it was just fed but still acts thrilled every time. Mother Mary will happily play fetch but loses interest about the same time you do—so, finally, a dog that won’t judge you for your short attention span. She absolutely lives for going places and seems convinced she was a seasoned road tripper in a past life. Every time the door opens, she’s ready to go, as if she has VIP access to all plans at all times. On a leash, she’s practically a pro. Sure, she might pull a little when a new dog barks at her from a yard, but by the third time, she has decided they’re old news. Walks are one of her favorite things, and she trots alongside her people like a champion “casual stroller” (think: grandma power-walking at the mall, but with more scruff and less gossip). Mary is the ultimate companion. Whether lounging on the couch for a Netflix binge or supervising some outdoor gardening, she just wants to be where the people are. She isn’t needy, but she will be nearby at all times, quietly infiltrating lives and stealing hearts with zero resistance. Since she loves everyone—human, canine, and probably extraterrestrial—she’d fit seamlessly into just about any home. Right now, as a devoted mother, her greatest passion is eating. Meal and snack times are a very big deal in her world, and while she gets extremely excited about food, she has the decency not to beg for yours. Frankly, it’s impossible to say anything bad about her. Apartment? House? Fenced yard? No fence? Doesn’t matter. Mary will adapt like the versatile, loving little scruffball she is—just be prepared to lose your heart to her immediately.

Mary has a firm grasp on the important commands—off, no, and sit (although sit is more of a suggestion than a rule). She’s potty trained, but only if her humans are paying attention. There have been exactly two accidents, both of which she refuses to take the blame for because, quite frankly, it’s not her fault if people don’t pick up on her subtle “I need to pee” signals. When it comes to kenneling, Mary was not a fan of being shut away with her babies. She did her time as a devoted mother and would now like to live her life as a free woman. Ever since the door has been left open, she’s been an absolute gem. She doesn’t counter surf, she doesn’t dig, and she hasn’t attempted to turn the trash can into a treasure hunt. If you were looking for a mischievous troublemaker, you’re out of luck—Mary is more “law-abiding citizen” than “tiny criminal mastermind.” Furniture rules? She follows them... mostly. She’s perfectly content snoozing elsewhere unless explicitly invited up. That being said, her foster woke up this morning to find her curled up at the foot of the bed like she’s always belonged there. No conversation was had about this arrangement, but she seems to think it’s a permanent deal now. She wants to be a door-dasher but is quickly learning that humans are inconveniently slow and stubborn about this whole “waiting” thing. The enthusiasm is there, but so is the progress. As for barking, she’s more of a team player than an instigator—she’ll join in when the rest of the pack is losing their minds over something truly horrifying (like the mailman), but she loses interest way before they do. When left alone, she’s claimed the living room dog bed as her personal throne and has been a perfectly polite houseguest. Of course, her foster has yet to actually leave the house since she arrived, so there’s always a small chance she’s just pretending to be a well-behaved angel while under surveillance. But based on everything so far, it’s safe to say she’s more of a “nap until my human returns” type than a “redecorate the living room with shredded pillows” type.

If you’ve made it this far and haven’t already started filling out an adoption application, I can only assume you’re either emotionally unavailable or have a heart made of stone. Mother Mary is the total package—adorable, well-mannered (mostly), and guaranteed to make even the most stubborn "No More Dogs" enforcer crumble under the weight of her puppy-dog eyes. But here’s the deal: she’s only accepting applications from people who are worthy (aka, those who can provide belly rubs on demand and don’t mind being followed everywhere like a VIP with a tiny, scruffy security detail). If that sounds like you, then go ahead and submit that application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can pass it along to her foster family, who will determine if you meet her very high standards. Oh, and logistics—Mary will be available to go home around March 16th, and you will have to make the pilgrimage to Broken Arrow, OK, to claim your new best friend. No, she will not be shipped. No, she will not be delivered via UberEats. But trust me, she’s worth the trip. Now, go fill out that application before someone else snatches up the best thing that will ever happen to you.
