My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rascal might have been named "Rascal" by her previous owners but she's really more of a Buttercup, or a Rosie or a Daisy! This sweet, gentle, and well-behaved girl is 9 lbs. and is estimated to be between 13-14 years old...although she didn't get THAT memo! Rascal is full of life and has all her faculties, all of which she puts to great use especially when the treats come out! She will stare you down for treats and once you finally give in with the justification that she has indeed been a very good girl and crack open the bag, she will come running with glee and will gobble with gusto!

All joking aside, Rascal is truly GEM of a dog in her own right, age aside! For anyone looking for or open to a vibrant and with-it senior, this is your gal! Rascal is a happy girl who loves life!

Rascal loves her multiple daily walks around Central Park and the NYC sidewalks and actively enjoys checking out the goings on and other dogs. She will often stop to watch other dogs running around the green or will look up curiously at a passerby or just enjoy the scenery and sunshine. If told "Let's go! or "Come on!" she will pick up her step and continue on readily. She can easily do a large loop in the park multiple times a day, including some small hills.

She's excellent on a leash and light on her feet. She's a lovely walking companion and has great manners! She does not pull or bark at anything on the walk. If a dog approaches her, she will allow sniffing and then be on her way. And don't underestimate her size and age with regard to speed as she can certainly keep up with a moderate New Yorker's pace! She also easily outpaces the 12-year-old chihuahua living in her foster home. She also has no fear of city noises in the slightest (and no, she's not deaf!).

She also understands that outside is where ALL "business" is done and will empty her bladder entirely at one time (she's not a marker). She will also go on wee wee pads if available but she prefers to go outside and if she really has to go, she'll let you know she needs to go out. If she is taken out regularly, her house training is perfect. She also doesn't seem to mind the rain too much and will go to the bathroom in less-than-ideal weather without an issue.

Rascal is excellent with other dogs. She's currently in a home with 3 chihuahuas (one 12-year-old (as mentioned), one lively 10-year-old and one 11-year-old). She's also been around another very rambunctious 21 lb. pug for a few days and could not have cared less. While it appears she enjoys other dogs' presence in the home in passing, she would be fine as a solo dog with a family that dotes on her as her focus is more on people than dogs.

Rascal LOVES people! She follows her foster humans around the apartment from room to room; she loves human company and wants to be included. Once convinced that the humans aren't moving from a certain room for a while, she will get on her doggie bed and go to sleep. She enjoys being carried and she might even particularly enjoy being carried supine like a baby especially if getting a belly rub at the same time. She enjoys pets and rubs and loves getting kisses on her head and cheek. She will lean in and nuzzle herself in a person's nook and get a scratch. She enjoys sitting with her foster mom on her lap or couch while she does computer work; she'll just snooze peacefully. Rascal also enjoys her crate and will often be caught napping in her crate at her own will. She also has no issue with visitors. She likes men and women equally and given her personality, we think she'd be great with respectful children (she also grew up with children in her previous home and she loved them). Rascal is one of those dogs that might come off as a little aloof on day one as she settles in, but by day 2 you think you might not be able to live without her. She's SUCH a sweet girl!

Second to people, Rascal loves food! She isn't picky and she hasn't turned her nose up at one thing yet. She will remind you when dinner time is near with an extra-intent stare, mouth agape and little gallop/jump.

Rascal is fine being left alone (currently with her doggie foster companions) in an enclosed area for several hours. She may moan very softly at first but it will stop (foster has a pet camera and monitors) and then she'll go into her crate to nap. It's not the type of noise to disturb neighbors as it isn't loud (this is also behavior the foster observed after having her for only a week so it may stop entirely). She also does not get into things, does not jump over gates and does not destroy or chew anything (again, more of a Buttercup than a Rascal these days!).

Other perks: Rascal knows when it's time for bed and sleeps through a full night without fail. She is compliant and allows clothing to be put on her without any struggle. She is an excellent travel companion (she was fine traveling on the subway and in a cab and stays put in her doggie bag). Also, her teeth are AMAZING! Her previous owner got her regular dental cleanings and it shows. She has almost all of her teeth and they are in great shape. This is quite rare for a chihuahua of her age. She also doesn't really shed. If you run your hand down her back, you might see only 1 hair.

Rascal is hoping to find a forever family who will give her all the love and treats she deserves and hopefully that is you! Truly, any person would be lucky to have her!
