Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Oh, so you want variety in a dog? You want a different look every day, like a living, breathing, floppy-eared mood ring? One morning, you wake up to a dog with ears standing at full attention like she's just heard the snack bag crinkle from three rooms away. By lunchtime, one ear is up, the other is doing its best impression of a confused question mark. By dinner? We’re in full Dumbo mode—ready for takeoff. And just when you think you’ve seen it all, her ears decide to square up like they’re about to throw hands… until they just give up and flop down completely. Oh, and she’s not just serving looks—her energy level is just as unpredictable. One day, she's an adventure junkie, dragging you up a hiking trail like you're in an accidental CrossFit class. The next, she’s the queen of laziness, committed to the fine art of couch potato-ing. You think no dog like this exists? You think I’m making this up? Well, buckle up, because I present to you: Elphaba!
Elphaba is a 19-week-old, 25-ish pound Great Pyrenees mix who firmly believes that personal space is a myth. She loves every dog she meets—a little too much, if you ask them. She simply must know where they’re going, what they’re doing, and if they don’t invite her to play, well, she’ll just invite herself. Boundaries? Never heard of them. If your dog is cool with unsolicited hugs, surprise pounces, and being adored 24/7, congratulations! They just won a new best friend. Cats? Oh, she loves them. Like, really loves them. Any chance she gets to sneak a peek, land a smooch, or go in for a full-on hug, she’s taking it. The resident cat has been kind enough to introduce her to a fascinating new sound called “hissing.” She assumes this means he’s just playing hard to get. Challenge accepted. Kids? The more, the merrier! She adores the two-year-old twins in her foster home and loves showering them with hugs, cuddles, and high-speed zoomies. Unfortunately, now that she’s getting bigger, those hugs cause gravity to work against the kiddos. She’d do best with bigger kids who can withstand her enthusiastic love without toppling over like dominos. Strangers? Doesn’t exist in Elphaba’s world. If you have a pulse, congratulations, you are now her best friend. She greets everyone with the same level of enthusiasm—hugs, jumps, and full-contact kisses included. If you’ve ever thought, “Wow, I wish I had a dog that treats every day like a reunion with a long-lost soulmate,” then Elphaba is your girl.
Elphaba scores a solid 10 out of 10 on the energy scale—not in the "bouncing off the walls like a caffeinated squirrel" way, but in the I give 110% to literally everything I do way. Adventure time? She’s already at the door, leash in mouth, waiting on you to get your life together. Meeting new people? She comes prepared with full-body hugs, kisses, and possibly a flying tackle. Cuddle time? Get ready for an enthusiastic roly-poly routine featuring surprise face kisses. Playtime? Oh, buddy. She’s zooming around like she just won the treat lottery and is determined to spend every last cent. When it comes to walks, Elphaba is more of a leisurely explorer than a competitive speed walker. She won’t drag you down the street like a sled dog, nor will she flop dramatically like a stubborn pancake—but she will stop to smell everything. Every rock, every tree, every blade of grass is a National Geographic-level discovery, and she’s here to investigate. If it were up to her, she’d hop in the car and go everywhere with you—hiking, lakes, trails, camping—you name it, she’s in. Now, if given the option, she’d much rather be outside in the yard than being a potato and sleeping the day away inside. Rain? Snow? Heat? She does not care. There is playing to be done, and naps are for the weak. She’s all things silly, spunky, high-energy, and happy-go-lucky—whether that be with people, dogs, or the occasional cat (if they would just let her love them). She has a couple of favorite toys, but most things are merely temporary victims of her master-level shredding skills. If you’re thinking you can leash-walk her instead of having a yard, let me stop you right there. Absolutely not. Leash walks alone won’t cut it—this girl needs a securely fenced yard where she can safely burn off her zoomies without dragging you along for the ride. She’s an adventure dog, an outdoor explorer, and an all-weather enthusiast. So, if you’re looking for a couch potato, keep scrolling. But if you need a quirky, high-energy, fun-loving partner in crime, Elphaba is so ready to meet you!
Let’s start with commands—she kind of knows "sit," but only when it suits her, which is about 50% of the time. The other 50%, she’s too busy solving world mysteries (or, more accurately, plotting her next grand adventure). "Come" is more of a polite suggestion than a hard rule, and we’re all just living in her world, hoping she obliges. Potty trained? Yes! The kennel? She’s cool with it—as long as she has a human or another dog nearby, and as long as the conditions are just right. No companionship or a little too much darkness? Prepare for the opera of complaints, starring Elphaba, with special guest appearances by your frayed nerves. Barking? If she’s alone, the entire world will know about it. If you’ve ever wanted a dog that can summon the spirits of your ancestors just by howling into the void, congratulations—Elphaba is your girl. When she has company, though, she settles into delightful husky-style chatter, just to keep things interesting. Elphaba has decided that alone time is the worst thing that has ever happened to anyone, ever, and she will be filing a complaint with management if her new family doesn't have another dog to keep her company or the ability to take her everywhere with them(which let's be honest, she would love.) Elphaba is a collector, specifically of things she definitely shouldn’t have. If she manages a quick heist from the counter or trash, you won’t catch her red-pawed—because she’ll already be outside, casually stashing her prize like a tiny, fluffy dragon hoarding treasure. Now, don’t get the wrong idea—she’s not just a four-legged land shark. She’s charming, sweet, and hilarious—she just happens to have the chewing habits of a teething alligator. With the right balance of supervision, training, and an unlimited supply of chew toys (seriously, stock up), she’ll grow into the perfect, less-mischievous version of herself.
If you’ve made it this far and still think Elphaba is the BEST THING EVER, congrats! That means you might just be the perfect person for Elphaba. All you have to do is fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can send it to her foster family—because yes, we do screen potential adopters to make sure they’re fully aware of what they’re signing up for. And before you ask, no, she will not be shipped to you like an Amazon package. You’ll need to come get her in Fort Sill, OK—because nothing says “I’m ready for this level of fun and wonderfulness” like a road trip to pick up your new four-legged best friend. Apply now… if you dare. 😈
