We wondered why a cute little tortoiseshell girl with melting brown eyes would be called “Concrete Sal” by her racing owners, and of course it turned out to be a tribute to her Dad “Hard Style Rico”, whose amazing racing record included winning the Melbourne Cup.
Her name didn’t inspire a hard-charging racing style – indeed, Lacey’s speed and athleticism in training rather deserted her in competition, and she retired after 18 starts and zero wins.
Now this lovely young girl – she’s just 60lbs and will turn four in August – is adjusting to civilian life with much more enthusiasm and a hugely wagging tail. After a lifetime with nothing but greyhounds, she is a little uncertain of dogs who don’t look like her, but is very polite when introduced properly. Lacey loves to run, and we think a well-fenced back yard where she can let off steam with regular 30 second zoomies will make her a very happy pet.
