My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"A dog will teach you unconditional love." This reminds us of our much adored Kia.

Why we love her: Kia is so sweet and gentle and the best company!

Kia is three years old and weighs 52 pounds, so she is a great choice if you want to adopt a medium sized companion.

Kia lives in the moment and savors each and every day. Her zest for life is such an inspiration and she is truly a joyful presence!

Kia greets everyone with her signature "woo, woo, woo"—a charming serenade reminiscent of Nashville's finest tunes. Her playful vocals are sure to bring a smile to your face, especially when she's eagerly awaiting a treat. Kia is the perfect dog for Music City USA!

Kia is such a congenial, enthusiastic companion on daily walks and loves to be close by your side to explore the beautiful trails on our shelter grounds. She is so interested in her surroundings, but even more interested in spending time with you!

Once she is done, Kia will roll around in the grass and kick up her legs. It is so sweet to see!

She has the best time in the fenced yard, where she bounds about in total joy. We love seeing Kia have so much fun!

One of her favorite things to do is sprawl on the floor to relax and enjoy the day. We call these her "sploots" and they are adorable to see!

Precious Kia is one of our very favorite cuddle buddies. She has a heart full of love she gladly shares and adores being petted and loved on. Kia is great with people of all ages and is so good with the children of our volunteers.

Kia has enjoyed play groups with her fellow shelter dogs. If you have another dog, we do require a meet and greet to ensure compatibility.

Kia wants to please and should master any commands you wish to teach her.

She had a fun outing with one of our volunteers who reports: "Kia was THE BEST girl on our field trip. She was calm and polite in the car, didn’t bark a single time away from the shelter, and even got in the cold river. I was so impressed with how chill she was."

Kia also had a great time on another field trip: "Her adventures included car rides (her favorite), exploring the Harpeth River, rolling in new grass, a pup cup, and stopping by CCAC’s adoption event. She’s the sweetest girl who is always ready to be your sidekick."

Kia spent some out of the shelter time and the family reports: "Kia is such a sweetheart. So far, she's been very chill. She loves hanging out on the couch with us. Kia only barks when she tries to get your attention about something. We left at home to go out to dinner but watched her through our ring camera. She just hung out on the couch. When we got home, there were no accidents. Kia greeted us with happy barks, but quieted down when told.

She slept with us in our room. She hid under the bed for a few minutes but would come out o her own. Kia wasn't afraid of fireworks that were going off nearby. She slept the whole night and let us sleep as well. She did not jump on our bed.

We took her for a walk today and for a pup cup at Starbucks. She behaved well in the car and on the walk - no issues, just a little pulling when she saw some squirrels."

Kia also spent time at the home of one of our dedicated volunteers who observes: "Kia is so well behaved and does well with school aged children. She is a good dog for anyone who lives in a house, condo or apartment. Kia is so sweet and loves attention and affection. She really enjoys walks and car rides and treats."

Take Kia home and you will have a fun and loving family companion! She is truly an exceptional dog!

Life with Kia will be such a great adventure - are you ready to begin the journey?

Special thanks to Joel Alexander for his beautiful photos of our dogs!
